I work for an engineering company, and we get a lot of anodizing done.

I also play with 'toys' and shop on ebay.

When the three come together it's dead smart[;)]

I have no faith in myself achieving the boxart paintjob of the Kyosho Rothmans bike, so it's off on a tangent again[8D]

That's next really, but have to find some 'sacrificial' parts to try colours.

If you look close at the gear (3rd pick, bottom left) the finish is speckled and the surface has pitted because of the anodizing.

This is mainly due to 'non-specific' aluminum or 'monkey metal' as the anodizers called it - it's alu, but not a specific grade and if the SRB cast parts are the same, the finish quality can't be guaranteed - but it is in the pipeline[:D]

Having said that, I got a NIB set of shocks that are about to be polished and dipped.

Talking of SRB parts - you still want that nosecone?

Yes I still want the nose cone. I have a lot of thrasher SRB you could use for testing. I suspect most of the SRB parts wouldn't come out to good. The Metal is cheap and pourous

The porosity is the main problem, the chemicals for cleaning get trapped when the parts are heated, then seep out again.

Some parts we've had done in the past stay tacky for days where the finish hasn't quite sealed properly, but it's not from any one plater, so it's definitely a material issue.

You can't see it great on the pic, but the gear has light grey 'speckles' all over it through seepage. We tend to get it a lot on tooling plate (mic-6 especially)as well, and the high copper content of mic-6 is another problem too.

Great thing is, a lot of CNC R/C part companies now are using 7075 (A.k.a. aircraft grade ) and this takes anodizing real nice.

Best of the lot though is H15 (don't know US spec), this can be hard anodized in colours so is cool for wheels and stuff.

Most of the other grades we've tried go dark before dying so colours don't show very well.

If you're looking for those forks on ebay, the GPM ones (I got)aren't oil filled, just sliders, wipers and grease, but they do feel nice.
