Hi folks,

I've been producing replica parts for my own restoration projects and now have them for sale if anyone is interested. I am currently producing a number of items and am in the process of updating my website with photos, shopping cart, etc.

You can check this stuff out at http://www.rcgrabbag.com. Go to the Store category, Vintage Parts link.

Please be advised that these are replica items, and not the originals!

Fantastic job. I guess this is the normal progression as original parts become harder and harder to find.

Do you have some of the alclad chrome paint so you could sell the parts already chromed?

Hmmm... Well, origional exhausts go for 40$ or so, so more than 30$ for a replica sounds steep to me. It's still a little piece of plastic and these aren't the real thing... [:(] I hope your site isn't going to get commercial here! [:o] I know many peolple will be interrested here, but your prices are a little too high, if you would ask me... [v]

I have the Alclad paint on the way for my own personal use. If it does a good job, I'll offer the parts painted.

I'm open to suggestions on prices since the site is not completely operational yet. Suggestions on fair prices are most welcome. Your point about the exhaust is well taken. I'll reduce all the prices.

Please bear with me! I am new to the 'vintage' Tamiya scene, have not owned one since 1981 and have only recently got back into it.

Aaaaaaaagh - About a month ago I swapped a scorcher nosecone for a MB one cos I got fed up with the 2 holes staring at me![;)]

That would be very helpful. I am in Europe and don't know where to get the paint so this would save the cost of getting it shipped over.

I think the prices are in line with how much time it takes to make a replica. Making molds takes a lot of skill. It's not like RCGrabbag is going to be selling hundreds of these. He needs to make enough money to cover his costs and make a little for the time spent. If I get a little extra money for Xmas, I will be giving RCGrabbag a call for some replica parts.

I agree with Shodog. Time to make molds and copies is never considered. Silicon and resin are not very cheap, and nobody talk about the items you mold and you must trash because of problems in the molding process.

I think the prices are reasonables, but what about shipping costs for european collectors?

Great job done with those copies. When are we going to see pictures of complete exhaust for example?

Excellent selection of the most wanted parts, hope soon you will be able also to sell them painted with Alclad chrome, also if you could do the rear BB lights I would buy a set, they have a very simple shape.

Keep up the good work! [:)]

One more idea for wanted parts :

as far as prices go i think rcgrabs prices are very fair.....it does take allot of practice for making accurate molds, and reproductions,i know this due to building r/c submarine molds and fibreglass/plastic

components,well done rcgrabag!. sanja.

There is an email link at the bottom of the Store page or you can email me at jw@rcgrabbag.com.

I made up a production schedule for certain items but demand will most likely change it. I have a number of requests for lenses so I will be rescheduling other items that no one has asked for yet so I can do ALL the lenses. If you are interested in something else, please let me know.

A lot of folks are asking for the replica 'chrome' parts to be prepainted with the Alclad II chrome paint. I've ordered some for testing and will let you know the results. I am also considering having them chrome plated but I want to try the paint first.

Thanks for the interest folks! Here's a pic of the unpainted replica temporarily mounted on my own Scorcher resto project:

I have used the alclad paint extensivly. It looks pretty good but it is definetly not like the chrome that comes on Tamiya parts. I think the only way to do that is to have it chrome plated with a vaccumized metalization process.

Here are some examples of the alclad I have done.

As far as the colour is concerned I believe the best solution would be to use some metal powder in the resine, this would give the exhaust a nice aluminium look.

Beautiful reproductions.[8D] BTW is that an ME109 under the sand scorcher left rear corner?

Before everything is going to blame me for saying the prices are low: Jonathan lowered them after I said that. The prices have significantly dropped (50% maybe??? [:o] ) and now I may say they are fair. Especially considering the time and effort that goes into such things. I think you did a great job there. Mainly an SS exhaust seems very complicated to me.

Is there any discount for TC members on these items??? [:o)] LOL

I just purchased the Sand Scorcher Exhaust. I can't wait to see how it turns out. I plan on completing a review for Tamiya Club upon receipt and inspection.

Thanks and take care.
