Hi Guys i got a question.

Whats Your Worst Tamiya Moment ?

I had mine last week [:(]

I was applying decals to my New GrB Celica Shell and inserting the head lamps when ,as i was puting the ones at the bottom in the shell cracked! '' I went what was that .It was when i was pushing the headlight into place the left hand corner the shell bent and then it cracked.

I no these bodies are always crack 2nd hand but not when its new!.

[:(!]Im not a happy bunny anymore[:(!]

I ran into this problem with my King Cab. The front left hand corner was super brittle and cracked while in the painting process. This was what 12 years ago. I ended up putting in some strip stryene to reinforce the crack. Now you know the reason why I do not like Lexan. I think the worse time is whenever I manage to strip a fastener hole. Or more recently, I manage to break off the brass ball joint on my Sand Scorcher. Ouch[:(]

I would say mine was when I used alcohol to clean the headlight buckets on my Mountaineer. It took the chrome right off.

For me cutting an inch long section out of the side of my brand new Scorcher radio box to allow for a stick type pack about 6 years ago. It was my 1st ever RC car and the old radio box was smashed to pieces and i really wanted to run it... [B)]

When I was 14 I had a new built Sand Scorcher (alas it is now no more thanks to my over-zealous mother doing one of her clean-outs[V][xx(][:0][B)]), and when we went on holiday to California I took it with me... all that sun and sand just seemed too inviting[:P]!

As you probably know they actually weigh a ton and once I had packed all of the radios, spares, tools, chargers etc I had pretty much used up all my luggage space.

Finally the day arrives... Laguna Beach at 8am [8D]... sun [:)], surf [:D], sand [8D], empty beach [:P], full battery [}:)]... ready to go... and the front upright snapped[:0][:(!][xx(][:(][B)]!!!

6000 miles of carrying it and only 10 metres of driving... How galling[V]!!!!

Drove my freshly restored Bruiser in full speed 2nd gear onto a small 3 cm high pavement I didn't see [}:)], truck jumped in the air and landed on the roof, didn't want to go and see the damage, knees got week... Luckiky only minor scratches on the (new) paintjob and the mirror got out without breaking, phew.... [B)][:P]

When I worked for a local model shop I built the demonstrators and kits people had bought. I was building a Hotshot for a customer, with the Tamiya Hump Pack battery on charge. The charger did not shut off when the nicad was charged, as I found out when I wondered what was burning, and looked over to see the top of the nicad had an extra bump on it that was growing as I looked. I unplugged the nicad and tried to push the now molten plastic back into shape, but it hardened before I could flatten it. This bump meant the battery would no longer fit in the Hotshots chassis, and we had to give the customer a replacement!

Also I had built a demonstrator Toyota Toms 1/12th. The bodyshell is mainly white with a red stripe across it. Painted the red stripe first, but when I removed the masking tape a lot of the red had run under the tape. In the panic I tried to remove the excess paint by rubbing it with a rag soaked in paint thinners. The body instantly cracked from the wheel arch a good inch across the shell. I finished the shell and glued up the crack. It still looked a mess, as it still had a large pink section in the middle of the white.

That's the legit 'peak detection' method the fellas used back in the early 80s... what's wrong with that?? [:D] What you should have done is to flatten the bumps out before the battery cooled... you usually have about 2 mins.

Worst abuse of a battery so far... charger didn't turn off. Battery's outside heatshrink shrank off. Individual cells' heatshrink started shrinking off too... then they shorted each other out! Extra heat, just what we need. The pack was also sitting on a (not-cheap) PC UPS unit... started melting down into the plastic case.

At least the scarred UPS still works today. [;)]

having to say nope i can't get that for you, its discontinued.

or better then that. Watching a Bruiser and clod buster run into each other at the park and try to run each other over, and over, and over.

course this was back in 1986 ;) its the memorys that hurt the most.

but my worst moment was saving up forever and getting a NIB monster beetle. Spending all saturday getting it together, running out side at 10pm after finally getting it operational . Gunning the throttle and watching the hex drives strip out.

that having to wait till that next tuesday to even find the part ;).

My worse tamiya moment was when I got a SS exhaust in very good shape. I made sure to put it in the parts pile so I wouldn't break it. Well it slipped onto the floor -so when I stood up I stepped on it. Broke it into 5 serperate pieces.

My worst moment was when I was about 12. I went to London with my dad and we went into Hamleys toy shop. It was full bore christmas shopping time in 1984. I was watching the promo. videos of the latest Tamiya RC cars, including the great Hilux. I wanted one SSSSSOOOOO badly but there was no way my dad could afford £250 or whatever they were.

Anyway, as I was watching the video this really rich snotty couple came upto the counter and asked the guy for the best kit he had for their son. I watched in horror as they just bought it without even knowing how nice it was.[V] I bet their son was a right brat that never even built it!![:(!]

It's probably still in his attic room now!![:0]

Propably assembled it wrongly, painted it neon green, then drove it, saw it is slow, so started jumps from roofs and flame drive with his buddys and then trashed it... [B)][:(] Will stop before I can't sleep tonight, feel sometimes as if those things are live creatures... [;)]

Cheer up Theo... I bet bibbo's right and he never built it... in fact it would not surprise me if it was one of the NIBs sold for over £1000 on ebay!!!!!

As they say, money makes money... apart from my money that is which seems to disapear with alarming ease [B)]

And even if he did build it, with all of those poor neon green, roof jumping, set on fire hiluxs (what is the plural of hilux?... hilai?) now being lovingly restored, it's even possible that one of this clubs members now owns that exact hilux and is treating it as it should be?!?[;)]

May be I should change careers and move into fairy-story writing? [:0]

It's taken me 20 years to get over that episode!![V]

Only buying a never run Hilux two weeks ago finally ended the years of anguish!!...[:D][:D][:D][:D]

What?

They took it home as a kit??

What poor churchmice... the really rich & truly spoilt ones would have gotten the shop to BUILD & PAINT it for them, install radio etc etc. (LHS can spot them a mile off.[:I])

They'd play with it for a little while, then bring it back for repairs when even the smallest thing broke. Often, whilst they are in the shop, they spot something else more attractive - and end up buying that one instead.

Usually they even don't bother picking up their previous broken toy after its fixed. [;)]

Yeh, but thats a great way to pick up old bargains, my lhs doesnt have a policy re. sale of repairs if not picked up within a set time

I picked a subaru brat up for £20 that had been in for repair for getting on for 2 years, they also have a super champ(not really a classic, but in mint condition) that has been there longer than that.

My worst tamiya moment was recently when remembering that holiday buggy(my first ever rc car) had been thrown away last year by my parents not realising its importance to me[xx(] all i have left is one front wheel. Ok i know it was in poor condition but im sure with some tlc.

Get the feeling I mighat have caused someone else to feel bad in a similar way... went to a garage sale here in Oz a few weekends back, and a nice couple were selling some stuff... so I bought from them a Fast Attack Vehicle, with battery, chargers, radio gear, box and instructions, for AUS$30. The son who owned it was overseas... he is NOT going to be happy when he returns...

Now I've just got to put it all back together (completely disassembled it), and then I will put it up for grabs...

My worst moments were when I was a kid and was unable to find/afford replacement parts for my Rough Rider.

I remember doing 3 bad things during that time. Each time, I thought it was the end of the car.

- Stripped out the hex-screw holes on the front suspension arms.

- Lost the front springs.

- Broke servo saver.

I was able to cobble it together anyway and run it for a while longer before I could no longer maintain it.

Well I pulled off a stupid move last night. I got a wild hair to paint my Porsche 956 body. I was careful to tape all the windows off and the front light covers. I applied the red and gold stickers so I would know where to separate the white and blue. I even taped off the line of Blue that goes around the headlights. But Doh. I forgot to leave it open on the back wing so it would be blue. Argh it has an all white top. I used pactra spray which is a very durable paint so I don't think I would be able to strip it with Nitro fuel Oh well
