These are around 280mm long, need some around 190mm o/a length.

Can't cut them shorter, as the hook part (highlighted) is welded on so cutting would render them (more) useless.

I've tried RS, Farnell and Maplin so far, and they all do the same ones.

If anyone knows, please get in touch!

But couldn't you cut the other end and refix it to the buckle thing (glue, rivet (like on bag straps), stitching depending on the material)??

Just a single one of your 'ooh shiny' SRB's when completed will suffice as payment for this invaluable suggestion [;)] (I'm not greedy)

Both ends are welded, and I'm not too sure of the integrity of the join if riveted/stitched.

Gonna go down town at lunchtime and have a look for some cheap watchstraps, may be another option.....

Shiny stuff is a while off yet, remind me at Xmas[;)]

Cool, exactly what they're for!

Jeez, just phoned Modelsport, £ 5.99 a pair!

Those yellow ones were £10 for ten from RS[xx(]

Ive made myself some straps the length I wanted it.

Go to any shop that sells cloth/material ( usually where your wife/mother go). Most of these shops sells velcro that are self adhesive.

If you stick two Opposite (hooks and Rings) pieces of velcro togeter (back to back) you can cut any length of velcrostrap from that. The moment you form an overlapping circle the velcro hooks meet the fuzzy circles - and you have a strap. You can even better the strap by adding some more Superglue between the back to back pieces for extra strenght.

Hope it helps

I've got a couple of pairs of these from Modelsport. All fully adjustable too. [;)]

I take your point, but for a third of the price of Modelsport, it's got to be worth a try... You'd probably get one of those 'Mr Minit' heel bar type jobbies to stitch it for you.

In PC World, you can get Velcro cable ties, I think they are about £4.99 for a pack of five. They don't have the buckles though, but I use them at home to tie cables, and they are pretty tough.

Posted

you can get some straps, quite thin though, from B & Q I think they are designed for holding plants to stakes. I use them to hold batteries into my bike. You can get them in various colours too.

Cheers guys

I need the buckle so I can 'crank' it a bit tighter. Gotta try the rivetted on tonite, failing that, it's off to B&Q for some plant ties.[:D]

FD I practically live there now I'm wed[;)]

Charcoal, screws for shelves, cordless drill, better cordless drill, black & decker quattro (cordless drill and sander and jigsaw), router for more shelves, metal brackets for shelves in the shed, hooks for tools in the shed, cut board for shelves, in fact, I gotta go again this weekend anyway cos she keeps using the towel rail as an airing rack and wonders why the rawlplugs have pulled out of the wall.

I've only been here 6 months[xx(]

He, he, he ... The only time my wife helped me in my RC project was basically when it came to shorten two of these... She basically used a sewing kit (sorry for the english, but the only technical terms I know are RC related [:I]) suitable for Denime.

I had previously atempted to glue the bits with no hope.

I will send you some pics.

Counts into the 'necessary evil' category as far as I'm concerned. Luckily my girlfriend has a similar attitude, so don't get dragged there too much. There is a certain 'frisson' to be had from the power tools though... (am I getting old/sad/p***ed or all three?). Now Homebase...

Raemin - your English is fine - 'sewing kit' is spot on

Ok, back to velcro - the rivets pulled straight thru[:(!]

But I managed to get something better[:D]

These came from Farnell, part number 722-273 (70p each or 60p each for 10+)

RS do a similar one 333-9654(3.19 for 10)

The Farnell ones are 203mm, the RS ones are 225mm

And those wire-tidy jobbers will rip apart at the oval hole. [:I]

Umm, guys... I *have* shortened those velcro battery straps before.

Cut free the plastic loop thing, then work out where you want it

reinstalled. Say about 2" further along, & fold back the velcro

strap over the plastic loop.

To re-weld the velcro... just use SuperGlue.

Apply the glue velcro's backing to velcro's backing, then clip

them down using some strong 19mm foldback/bulldog clips.

Or you can learn to sew with a needle & thread; I find using pliers

easier than working out what a thimble does. Then coat your stitching

and the surrounding material with superglue to reinforce.

Yes, domesticated... [|)]

I'm not sure who's dafter, you for suggesting it, or me for trying it!

Couldn't find a bulldog clip, so used fat thumb - which has now got yellow fluff CA'd to it[xx(]
