Is there any reason why the O-rings used on the TA-03 shocks are red? I presume they're not the standard black variety due to being a low friction silicone based item?

Anyway of 'reviving' them? Or am I best off ordering/obtaining another set of new ones?

I ask this as I just got the rest of my shock parts and omitted to order these things and will have to pay silly LHS prices, or order and pay like shippign again ;)

But if there's a 'spec' out there then perhaps a local bearing shp can supply them mucho cheaper?

A:- the red ones are just rubber, I think.

The new 'silicone' ones as used in the fluorine

shocks are colourless clear.

The red ones seem a bit chubbier than the usual black ones

used as spacers etc, but the black ones seem to work ok too.

Don't have to stick with Tamiya either... most other brands

will fit too, like HPI etc. Most of the shock shafts are ~3mm.

Hard to 'revive' rubbers, but you can try refitting them

with a bit of light grease. Quite often the rubber can be

spoiled when one threads the threaded portion of the shaft

through the seals, grease & care helps here.

(If ya can't find anything usable up there, let me know.)

Thats what I figured (in terms of size) I'll probably just drive out out the LHS (which is in the next state) tomorrow and pick up some 'generics'. They do seem different to the good 'ol black ones.....

May stop and check out a bearing shop on the way though..

At least now I've sussed out what the car drove funny. Two of the shocks had had the E clips come of... no damping there ;)

Yes... [:I]

Had the bottom of a rear shock undo itself recently and dump its sump

all over the rear suspension & tyre. Wierd handling & big mess! [8)]

Wierd day that, took a newbie friend to the track... and both M03s

lost enough screws to retire themselves, the ever-faithful 04 got

smacked enough to snap a 'hard' arm and then the TB's sump dump.

But that happened after an hr of continuous running... yeah,

non-stop for dozen packs' worth, running at near Mod pace

with no slacking off thanks to brushless technology.

Amazing stuff.

Fixed the shock, returned the very next day and ran for

another continuous 2hrs+... non-stop 20+ packs straight.

(Speed is very addictive!)

The only thing I'm gonna say is I'm in awe of your battery collection ;) My 3 battry line up just can't match yours ;)

My TA-03 is yet to have a complete run un-marred by an expensive failure.... Hopefully once the shocks are done I'll get some good run times out of it ;)

So far it's:

dropped screws (and hence half the gearbox)

Thrown out grub screws and lost belts

Shredded the pinion/front gearbox (it's an 03F running Kyosho 16Turn)

Had really really bad handling (That pair of shocks with loose E clips)

Plus a few others stops along the way. I look forward to having it running properly one day - and will never ever buy a used hopped up car ever again. I swear this thing was made up of bent + busted parts from about 4 different TA-03s.......

Best #1 upgrade (after bearings & ESC) is to swap the

motor screws for cap-hex M3 high-tensiles.

Near impossible to tighten the phillips heads properly,

whereas with the cap screws I'm now damaging the motor can

by overtightening (can gets pulled out, or threads strip).

but but but... Frankenstein Tamiyas are half the fun! [:D]

Already got a whole fleet of 03s, but just acquired another 3/4.

When it eventually arrives, I'll work out what I just bought.

Answering my own posts again...

I ended up picking up 20 'Viton' O-rings from a local bearing shop. Viton is not affected by oils etc which some generial rubbers are.

They're a tighter fit than the Tamiya red ones but seem to work fine. and once again I have 4 working socks on the TA-03 - and WOW all with the same valving!

Next replacing the motor mount screws! And some new connectors for the motor.

*laughs8 Pricey day for the hobby.

My other half just blew AU$188 on ESC, Paint, bearings and battery for her Baja Champ....

How much & from where, Aaron? [:P]

I bought them through a local bearing supplier....

20 of them cost me $11.70 which is much less than buying 20 Tamiya ones locally and about $2 less than ordering 20 Tamiya ones from the cheapest place in Au (Perth, Radiomodels)
