Hey guys! I have been searching the forums for a link and, or topic on modifying or replacing the Grasshopper II series gearbox system on my Grasshopper II. Can anyone help me? Thanks a bunch![:D]

There's no need to replace the gearbox.

Put ball bearings in it, and use a 540 motor with an 18 tooth pinion.

I think it fits 5 ball bearings of the 5x11mm size, and 1 of the 5x8 size.

I know that there is no reason to replace the original gearbox. I thought it would be an interesting project. I know other people have done it to enhance the performance of the chassis. But if the difference is negligible then I would agree that modifying the gearbox is pointless. It would still be cool to see those modifications though[:)]

Some Japanese fella did build a custom rear end for GH2,

incorporating a TA04 ball diff, belt drive &

independent suspension.

There were pix on the web some time back, but I've lost the link.

I know it's a shame to chop up a classic, but I love that Grasshopper.

I like that at a glance it's obviously still a Grasshopper, but than when you look closely it practically a 'state of the art' racer. The only thing that spoils it slighty for me is the wheels, it would be nicer with some more retro looking ones.
