this really is about as good as my luck gets........ after running my TGX to the point where it got so hot and died a few weeks ago - more like melted - i decided to look for another engine. as if by magic, one turns up on ebay. it turned out to be a brand new, never ran thunder tiger PRO-15BXS. but most of all, it was cheap. i watched the auction all week and sniped it at the last moment to win. total price - including P+P was less than £50. well it arrived today and looked spot-on apart from the clutch end part of the crank was different. my plan was to strip both engines and hopefully fit the tamiya crank to the thunder tiger engine, so i could stick to using tamiya parts. after both engines were stripped, it became clear this idea wasn,t going to happen. no worries i thought, it just means i,ll have to buy thunder tiger flywheel and clutch parts to make it fit.

after a hour or so messing about with various ideas, i decided to build the thunder tiger engine back up.....this is where it goes wrong...

i built it all up and last of all, came to fit the head. the head gasket is ultra thin, so i decided to make sure the head bolts were nice and tight. we dont want them coming loose and causing trouble now do we.......

i "beefed" them all up nicely and on doing up the last one, it went slack on me......oh dear......

i knew it was going to be bad and for a moment i was scared to look.....it wasn,t until a bit fell off, that i braved a peek...

i cant work out how to put a picture into a forum topic, so i,ve put the picture in my showroom and added a link - thats easy!.

needless to say, this engine is f*****!. i wish i could tell you what it ran like or sounded like, but i guess now, i,ll never know..

lifes a bummer sometimes eh! [:D]

You should be able to buy a new crankcase quite cheap, I think the last time I bought one it was for a Kyosho 12 size and it cost around £12. I needed one as I was attempting to port this engine and run a bigger carb, I bored out the carb port a bit too much and it collapsed on itself....

Good luck

thats the thing, you never can tell how much some parts are going to cost. i dont mind buying a new engine casting if its cheap enough. but like you, i also mess about porting and tuning these engines, but £40 a go for your average piston/liner kit is a bit of a steep price to pay when you get "carried away" with the mini drill....

if more engine parts were interchangable - and cheaper - i think it would double the fun of running these kind of cars.

still, live and learn eh!.

Reminds me of when a freind of mine had a helicopter,we went to the park one day, fired it up,,off it went then....BANG!!! it came crashing down and took a look at it, but it didn't take long to find out what happened...Somehow the engine managed to put it's 'leg out of bed'

i wont be so heavy handed with the head bolts this time.........
