Hi,

I have a soft spot for old Ford Escorts, and I have spotted this Escort on Ebay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/******************.

Being new I would like to ask a few questions. What is its true value, would it be difficult to get it up and running and do you know of any early Escort shells that would fit a Tamiya chassis.

Regards

Dougan

No posting live auctions please, the rules are clear! [8D]

The value is what you'd like to spend on it really, each to their own I guess. This body is for the Tamiya M chassis, and will only fit the M-01, M-02 and M-03, and no M or L version of these cars.

I think these bodies are still avaliable, and so are M-03 kits. A second hand M chassis can also be found fairly easily and parts are readily avaliable. To be correct you'd need a M-02 or convert a M-01 to a M-02 (easily done), as RWD is the correct drive for the origional (as you might know already)... [;)]

There are also Pilot and Repsol Escorts from Tamiya, these are the later types from the 90's and not the 70's one you showed. They were origionally released one the TA-01, TA-02 and TL-01, but should fit basicly all modern Tamiya chassis with a standard (257mm) wheelbase, such as the TA-03F, TA-03R, TB-01 and TA-04 etc. I hope this helps. I've seen some Escort shells floating round on a well known auction site (Is That allowed))

I don't know what scale they are, but the are a MKI Escort and it looks to me like a Mexico as it has blown arches etc.

Good luck

think these are 1/12th white ABS plastic bodies for the Mardave cars but I'm sure they could be adapted to be used on one of the Tamiya M chassis.

The bodyshell is, as wkl88 said, for the 1/12 Mardave V12 chassis.

Having played with the idea of doing this conversion before, I have a bit more info. In the end I decided it would need a lot of work to get the results I wanted. If you're not too bothered about scale looks though, it wouldn't be too hard to get something that works.

The way I saw it, there are 3 main problems:

- Wheelbase. The M-chassis was just a bit too long. You could butcher the shell a bit to make it fit, but ideally, you would need to shorten your chassis by about 10mm.

- Width. The chassis is acouple of mm too wide. It'll still look ok, but if you want any degree of suspension travel you'll have to jack the body right up. Maybe you could find some aftermarket wheels to improve this, but you might just have to live with it.

- Wheel diameter. M chassis wheels are too big. They would work, but they ruin the scale appearence and mean you have to butcher the shell somewhat. Perhaps you could find some smaller wheels which would fit, but between the hubs and the ground, there's not much room for manouvre.

you want to talk to Macca ( Dazmeister)

he can sort you out with bodies.

And as for Escorts, the Mark 2 is still the finest car Tamiya never made...
