quote:how much would a full set of decent shocks cost me? and when you say modify the steering would i have to buy other parts or do i just have to adjust it.

As i already have the radio gear from when i bought my first car, would I be able to just buy another receiver with the identical crystals to the one in my radio? I already have a spare servo left over from when i replaced my MSC with an ESC, and I could use the ESC i already have with my other car. (Mtroniks eco20). would i be able to do that without having to buy a whole new radio set?

The cost of shocks can range from fairly cheap like the Tamiya CVA2 sets that can be built upto 67mm in length, these tend to go for around £14 a pair, you need 2 pairs. Or you can go mad and spend a fortune buying funky tmaxx shocks and spend about £80. Your best bet is to trawl ebay and spot a bargain.

You can just buy a reciever and a pair of crystals and install them with your esc. This ESC should be able to handle the standard motors (by my calculations) but it's going to be pretty close to its limit. The ECO series are pretty good for off roaders as they are water proof and have a high 'frequency' which makes them smooth at the lower speeds.

The steering mod you'll need to do if you raise the suspension is pretty simple, basically you need to raise the point at which the steering arms meet the steering knuckles, not a hard job and can be done easily with a few basic bits and bobs (I dont know of anyone who makes a conversion) I used some 40mm long M3 screws and some plastic spacers to give the clearance needed. hard to explain but you'll see what I'm on about when you do it.

They still make good off roaders without the suspension lift, but you do need the shocks as they ones included with the kit arent smooth and can stick, effectivley stopping your suspension from working.... But if your on a budget, get the basic kit (Around £110-120) and a receiver (£17) and a pair of crystals (£8) and your laughing.

The Wild Dagger has been superseeded by the Twin detonator, I'm not sure of the differences, but i dont think they are huge, you may be able to get a Wild Dagger slightly cheaper as they are going end of line.

You might be able to get the shocks from someone on here, try posting an ad in the forum.

You wont NEED a set of shocks to have alot of fun, but it does make the Wild Dagger better off road. It still very capable as standard.

Getting 2 sets of crystals is always a good idea as if you find someone to race against the chances are they will be on the same frequency.

Some LHS's will sell crystals 1 by 1 (Which is great for me as most of my stuff is second hand/incomplete)

I have been to hobbys stores in Chelmsford, I bought a boat from there about 2 years ago as they were the only people who stocked a particular powerboat I was interested in buying.

My first real RC car was given to me as a non runner (Subaru Brat) I fiddled with it until I got it working and literally drove it into the ground. This was around 1986 and I had no idea it would have been a classic....
