i really wasn't sure where to post this question but i figure since this is the sub forum where tamiya commerce takes place.....

i've been looking all over for another Peugeot 206 body set......can't seem to find one....all i find are the quick drive body sets but those come painted and stickered already....and my goal is to get one unpainted for a project.....

i found a site that has the whole kit....a TA03F-S with the Peugeot 206 WRC body....perfect....

but when i converted the asking price of 183 Euros....it comes to $227 US dollars! i nearly passed out!

i recently picked up two TA03F-S Corolla kits....NIB, for $150 US each....

is my currency conversion wrong?

or are Tamiya kits commanding some serious dollar in Europe?

they also have these others for the same price.....

TAMIYA 58210 SUBARU IMPREZA WRC

TAMIYA 58189 ALFA ROMEO 156 MARTINI

TAMIYA 58199 MITSUBISHI LANCER evo IV

TAMIYA 58220 MOBIL 1 acura NSX ....this one was 262 Euros...

Could be that the Euro price (implying a European based seller?) includes VAT (17.5% in the UK) and possibly passes on an element of the imprt duty. If this is the case, the 'tax free' price would be 155 Euros which equates to about 192 USD. The 183 Euros equates to about 120 GBP which is what I would expect as a 'LHS' price in the UK. Of course I could be way off the mark...

Of course another option would be to place a 'wanted' ad in this forum [;)]

wow....that's quite a bit....i think i'll just keep my eyes on eBay.....

besides...this body set will end up a runner anyway....

thanks for all the info.....

In the UK you can easily end up paying more in UK Pounds than in the USA in Dollars! and the difference IS NOT accounted for by higher taxation.

eg. an item that costs $85 in America may well be offered to the UK at £100!!!

It's not just the RC hobby that's affected, it's loads of things, from automobiles to yacht chandelry.

If anything, mainland Europe suffers from even higher "hobby stuff" pricing than the UK!

Nobody, except "the trade" seems to know why this is but "the trade" is saying nothing.

Somebody is being ripped off and I reckon it's me.

What I cannot understand is how a high spec Mtroniks ESC, built only 50 miles from me, is £50 cheaper bought from Hong Kong than in the UK. [?]

Bit difficult to take back to shop though if it doesn't work.

Sorry, but have to disagree, where do you base that on? I see Tamiya kits on german stores much cheaper then in the UK, the same difference reflects also on ebay.co.uk which seems to be one of the most expensive when it comes to RC stuff.

Cheers
