Hello everyone, I'm transforming my ta01 tourer into a 4wd buggy (manta ray suspension arms & shock towers etc.) and want to use pro line's new paddle tires that feet 1:8 scale gas buggies. since I have never seen a gas buggy close I have no idea how their wheels are mounted. do you know of a method to mount this kind of wheels on a regular tamiya hex hub?

Hi, you could try HPI or Kyosho because I have large tyres on my FF01 and Bear Hawk that I believe were destined for a Nitro buggy. They have the standard Tamiya Hex. Look a bit too big for electric buggy wheels.

I dont think HPI makes 8th scale buggies, are you sure these are buggy wheels?

Hi,

I had a built from scratch Top Force EVO a few years back and had to use Schumacher buggy wheels and matching (square block) tyres to run it. I remember the hobby shop saying they came from a 1/8th buggy. The hex was identical to Tamiya and they where very good.

No, maybe they were for electric, I just remember guy in LHS saying they were for nitro buggies. If you get the chance have a look at the Bear Hawk in my showroom. The Bear Hawk front and rears are unusually large for buggy tyres? They are definitely Kyosho and have the 8x5 bearings up front rather than the usual Tamiya 11x5. The chrome ones fitted to the FF01 (New shape mini shell) are HPI, they are hex both front and rear and could possibly be for electric 4WD buggy. They do however give considerable ground clearance as this FF01 chassis has been well used and abused on our off road circuit!

Hello mud4fun, I just looked at your show room, the ff01 wheels look like a super touring stuff. as for the bear hawk (very very nice by the way), It looks like regular 2.2" buggy wheels to me. the fact that the front tires came from the same car could confirm that, because the 1:8 buggy tires i'm looking for suppose to be 4wd (so, no bearings in front wheels). Thanks for your help, at least i got to see your nice bear hawk...

No problem SnakePlissken, sorry couldn't be any more help. Many thanks for kind comments on Bear Hawk, one of my favourite non-runners - too nice and too few spare parts to actually abuse!

Those HPI Super Nitro wheels are just the same as 2.2" buggy rears.

1/8th wheels would need quite a lot of work to fit - not only are the hexes a different size, but 1/8th cars run with a much fatter stud through the wheel, and use much bigger nuts than 1/10th cars.

Perhaps you can find a tyre you like that fits a 1/10th stadium truck? Then you could use the wheels from an HPI MT, and fit the stadium truck tyres you like - how about these www.pro-lineracing.com/proline/tires/1052/1052.html by Pro-Line?
