I've just spent two nights on cleaning all the metal parts for the chassis on my Blazing Blazer, using steel wool. The result is awesome, now it really shines and looks better than it did 20 yrs ago straight out of the blisterpack!

Ok, so I've rubbed my knuckles sore and spent half a box of steel wool, but it was well worth the struggle - I like to do the job thoroughly and really make my cars shine. Although the picture(s)(more in my showroom) doesn't do the shine justice!

The question is, how do ya'll work on the different parts for your cars?

I'm thinking about the real restaurations, not the runners. I think we've all read numerous threds on how to do body work, but what about the metal parts? Any trick tips? I've tried glass blowing on the metal parts on my SRBs, which I think worked great, but this is not suited for sheet metal and the stuff that makes out the 3spd chassis parts, cause it will bend.

I would clear coat the metal now or use a silicon based metal polish.

since you used steel wool on the chassis which scratches the nickle chrome coating, it will oxidize fast over the next few weeks. The metal may turn a black color if in a high himidity.

most automotive polishes have silicon in the formula to act as a Corrosion barrier to the air.

take care.
