Show them everything, screw bags, servo saver springs, damper grommets, the lot.

After 20 minutes of being bored (even more) witless by how rare something is and the fact it was shipped over by a one legged pygmy drug runner with arthritis, they soon lose interest of what's coming thru the door.

I walked in with a dirty great super soaker in a bin bag last nite - no comment was made 'til I used it[8D]

LoL, you guys are seriously scaring me with this talk of having to send stuff everywhere besides your house so wifey doesnt know.

You boys are whipped by wifey so bad! Show her who's the boss!

lol

This thread has come along way since I started it, must admit my wife has now 'given up' complaining and questioning and now just gives me the 'evil eye' from time to time when the boxes I bring in are too large.

The best thing I ever did was as suggested and 'try to get her involved' explaining what everything was, where it came from, sniping on ebay tips, forieign shipping and customs avoidance. Never seen her look so bored and uninterested. She has asked again since [;)]

haha, definitely not. i just got out of a serious relationship to boot, so i'm a free man. no birthday gift or x mas gift for significant other to worry about, so more cars for me!

well, sounds like i'll never get married: too restrictive.

pshhh, my g/f helped me buy my bmw schnitzer. she still turned out to be an uptight (insert b word).

anyways now i'll be selling that thing without remorse.

gonna be bachelor for a while. concentrate in school (1 1/2 yrs to go and i get my degree, woohoo).

here's a tip: use a personal laptop. setup your own ebay account with a your own credit card (no joint account). [8D]

start building more shelfs in the garage and start covering stuff up with cloth or boxing NIB together.

I told my GF when we started dating: I am - and will always be - a kid at heart. So when she sees my buy a 'toy', she thinks it's 'cute'. [:P]

Anyways, she makes a lot more money than I do (I'm still a student) so she doesn't really complain - I can't buy all that much...

My g/f runs 3 horses.

Well they are soooooo much more expensive to run than my 1:1 landrover, 16+ rc cars, 50+ scalextric cars etc....

Boys and their toys, still 12years old at heart.

Heres a quote form a Michael Crichteon book. Written about engineers but I think it may apply to TC

Engineers

“Emotionally, they’re all thirteen years old, stuck at the age just before boys stop playing with toys, because they’ve discovered girls. They’re all still playing with toys. They have poor social skills, dress badly – but they’re extremely intelligent and well trained, and they are very arrogant in their way. Outsiders are definitely not allowed to play.â€

My g/f just bought me a NIB Pajero MTW for my birthday [8D] She also puts up with cars in bits at her place, and supplies me with wine when I'm glued to the PC at 'snipe' time. I'm sure there's a catch, just haven't found it yet (and hope I never do). I'm a lucky man [:D]

Boys / Men, who wears the pants in the family? Got to train the Mrs or GF. Like make sure she fetches you a cold one when you come home...from RC shopping or RC racing, lets you watch all the sport events on TV, allows you to pick sexist, mindless or action pack movies, carries all your parcels, walks 3 steps behind you, speaks to you only with her eyes and head towards the ground, allows you to use the bath room 1st thing in the morning, does all house and yard works and even changes your car motor oil, on weekend she goes to garage sale to look and bargan for any vintage model you like or don't have and finally she must carefully dust off all your shelve Kings. She has to do all the above because you will be too busy playing or building RC and you need to relax after you have applying the last @#$%^&* sticker from a Tamiya kit.

Okay, here's how I did it:

After receiving a package every week two years ago, my wife became suspicious of my spending.

She began to question what I've been buying and how much I've been spending. Luckily, she knows nothing of the cost of our 'TOYs.'[8D]

As far as her seeing packages, I began to get home a little earlier and always checked the mail first. That kinda worked. Of course there were times we'd arrive home at the same time and she'd see me sneak a package from the front door to the garage. [:D]

When we moved into our new house last year, I continued to have packages sent to my former house (my brother's house). Can't do that anymore since it's pretty far.

Wife knows. She knows how to check the bank account for my spending. Hobbyshop purchases of course shows up in the account statement. Therefore, I opened an extra account for this hobby. I primarily use it for Ebay purchases.

As far as Ebay, I have two accounts. One I use to really spend on and the other for little things. I've asked her bid on things for me before and of course I ask her to use the small Ebay account.[;)]

Saying that "I got that as a trade items" works.

Hide your items well. But plain sight is the best. My display room at home has most of my new builts and the runners are in the garage and NIBs somewhere else. If she saw all of them together, she'd wander how I got them all.

The real manipulation [}:)].

SHOW wife true enthusiasm for this hobby. She tells people that I am so into this hobby. She bought me an NIB Sand Scorcher on ebay! She knew the cost but I tell her all my other TOYs are just worth $100 or less each. One time, she happen to see my catalogs and like the Hilux. She said it was the best looking kit. I said, can you get get me one pretty please [V]. See my NIB one in my showroom.

The moral is: show your true enthusiasm with the hobby, but don't let her know everything. Also, boring her with my stories or dilemas with the collection works.

In the end, SHE said that I should collect my favorite cars built and unbuilt and knows that they are expensive, but just take it slow and she will help out when she can. Wife currently going to school, will be done in a 5 months and my crazy spending shall resume!!!

I have found that nothing beats the truth. Sure she will be mad for a while but if you lie and she finds out, you'll never hear the end of it. I like Andy's approach, bore them to death by showing them every part. After their eyes glaze over your in the clear.

Sick of having to hide your toys and make excuses? Ditch that hag and come to the soon to be built 'Tamiya Terrace Condominiums' This is a groovy place where you and your Tamiya RC buddies can hang out in a 'guys only' place that is safe to have RC cars in. There is even a swap meet to be held every saturday morning in the terrace and a Tamiya only hobby store in the atrium!

Applications for residency now being accepted. Please be sure to include one NIB Tamiya RC model from the first 30 cars for immediate consideration! (Models not-refundable if application denied!) [;)]

SO what are you waiting for? Cast that cranky wife aside and join in the fun!

My mrs is quite open minded about my hobby, she likes the cars, enjoys me 'working' on them and actively participates in the hobby, she did own a Tamiya Mini for a while but wanted one in a different colour. (Purple)

I have bought around 5 cars and 2 boats in the last 3 weeks, using money from ebay sales, she has no problem with this at all.

We were chatting about names for kids the other day when I suggested the name Tamiya (Ta me ah) she said it sounds lovely. How many of us have kids named after the hobby!!
