Okay, for you guys who have shelf queens...Do you place your cars/trucks on stands or generally leave them sit on their tires?

I have a 3 speed with warped tires just for sitting too long.

I've heard about parts on Celica Grbs and Avantes breaking on while on display.

What have you experienced?

Thanks,

Darwin

hi,

i,ve only actually got one shelf queen - thats my rough rider. the only real problem i have with it, is dust. i,m seriously thinking about buying a display case for it from these people

www.theshowcasecompany.co.uk i bought a case off them ages ago to display a couple of 1/12 GP bikes, and its a really nice case.

is that going a bit "over-board" do you think?.

I have my cars on sheet alloy that I get bent into "U" shapes by the local metal guy. It works out quite cheap and looks really nice.

As for glass cases these are really easy to make. Just get some glass cut to size, buy some glass-to-glass silicone and stick it together. Then make a plinth out of some wood. Look in my showroom for examples.

These cost about 15 - 20 euro's in materials and take about 1 and a half hours to make each.

You can make them to exact sizes as well, and there completely dust proof.[;)]

Hi everyone, For my shelf queens I use wood blocks carved out to fit the bottom, then router them around the edges and coat them with poly. They are set approx. half inch off the surface to protect the tires. Seems to work nice plus look pretty kewl.

hi,

i never thought in a million years tamiya collectors would be making stands out of lego!

how many of you collectors used to play with lego? (i still do now and again, i am a master of the stuff!)[;)]

to keep my old lego hobby alive, i clip a lego man onto my clods antenna pipe! [:D] they fit perfect, try it!

How about getting some Tamiyaclub display stands manufactured? Maybe a couple of different sizes, or even better yet a functional design to fit any size car? It doesn't have to be that expensive, with rather large numbers and some good planning & research? Hey, this is not my field, but just an idea I thought of when I read this!

We spend hundreds and hundreds of $ on these cars, I think display models need to be displayed properly to really reflect their sentimental value!

BTW Darwin, I really dig your collection! It's maybe not the biggest on TC, but you've got all the sweet cars dude (exept that NIB WW [;)])! I know I've said it before, but I just checked out your site and have to hand it to ya once again! Hope all is well after all the fires you guys have had! (I going to SF in a few days, but I guess the fires haven't gone that far north?)

I remember reading somewhere, probably in an old RCCA, that the ideal storage would lift the car just enough to prevent flat spots while still keeping the suspention partially loaded. I seem to remember them claiming that allowing the suspension to just hang there would eventually warp the a-arms on some cars where the arm bottoms out before the shock is fully extended.

IIRC they reccomended putting the chassis up on a block while putting foam under the wheels to prevent the flat spotting and allow some suspension loading.

I wish my parents hadn't thrown out my old RCCA collection when I went to college, that was 9 years ago and I'm still a bit bitter. . .

I had been toying with the idea of making little jack stands out of brass a while ago. Perhaps somebody could indeed make an alloy or lucite stand with the TC logo emblazoned?

Actually a guy in RCMT had made some few months ago, looked great, but they were hand made so no way he could provide for whole TC... [V]
