You may have noticed me trying to get a similar project going with a twin engine M0-2L beetle, but i've also converted my car from rear to front wheel drive (then back again - it was loads better).

Its a pretty simple operation, but if you need any help, give me a shout.

Cool thanks for replying. Basically I need the shortest (210mm?) rwd m chassis, so the m02. I believe in stock form in the abarth, alpine, and honda s800. It'll be a runner so I don't want to buy a NIB. I've thought of reversing an m03 and even shortening an m04, but in the end buying a used, albeit prehistoric, m02 version is easiest. Any suggestions?

If you're looking for the shortest possible m chassis to convert to rear wheel drive then you probably could go for the short mini version. Both the front and rear bulkhead assemblies have mounts for the steering setup as far as i can remember, so all you would have to do is switch the two and connect the steering to the servo with a shorter rod.

I can't think of any reason why you couldn't do that, unless there are no steering mounts on the shorter front bulkhead, which i'm sure there are.

Just switching the polarities should do it - i think thats how i did mine anyway. It does seem well worth converting though. When i switched mine round i lost most of my straight line stability, although it did stop spinning out on loose surfaces.
