Sorry that this has been covered before, but I've managed to confuse myself completely [:I]

Simple question: I want to put some nice looking alloy shocks on when I (finally) build my KBF. Is it better to get 100mm (T-Maxx etc.) shocks and use internal limiters to get them down to 95mm or so, or would 90mm shocks (e.g. the fronts from an RC10 GT) be a better option? Both are freely available in a variety of finishes but I don't want to get the wrong thing.

Thanks. David

If you need 95mm, then go with the 100mm shocks and install shock limiters. I don't know if this will be an issue, but if you're running stock springs, then forcing less shock travel will increase the spring rate a little.

Everything I have read on the subject suggests putting internal limiting on the 100 MM shocks. Best to use shocks with the longest stroke you can find IMHO. The T-maxx shocks should do well. Not to mention they are cheap and plentiful.

Yes, me too. They are the people that I get HPI x-pattern mini tyres from, and I would agree with you they are reliable and very reasonably priced.

Berk alert!

Does the Monster beetle use the same shock set-up as the KBF?

What are these limiters, and what do they do?

Where do i get them?

Do i ask too many questions at once?

I am also looking for nice shockers for my KBF. The RCBoyz site seemed very slow last time I checked. Yet now when I check again, the site goes pretty well...

Did you order the threaded shocks or the normal ones? And what color? [8D]

OK - let's take these in order (feel free to pick me up on errors in the detail):

Headcase - no, the MB is not the same as the KBF. MB came with the yellow 'short CVA shocks' all round - vertical(ish) at the front and horizontal(ish) in Frog/Brat/Blackfoot style at the back. KBF has friction shocks set vertically all round. If you've paid yer sub [;)], you can compare the two online manuals.

As for limiters, these are lengths of tube that are slid over the shock shaft under the piston and 'limit' the downward travel of the shaft. As for getting them, I'm sure that you could improvise with the correct diameter tubing (although the yellow CVA's should have the right length/travel for the MB).

Sjoerd - I ordered two pairs of the Silver Hot Bodies threaded T-Maxx shocks via their ebay.com store (not the main rcboyz.com site). They are only charging $5.40 shipping to the UK which seemed good to me. If you use the 'search ebay shops' tab in the 'advanced search' link on ebay.com you'll get to their store, and the T-Maxx hopups are in their own section.

Hope that answers your questions chaps [:)] Cheers. David

They also have a site you can order from, it's www.rcboyz.com

I haven't tried their services yet, I got an estimate made of some stuff and it turned out to be quite expensive... I need to limit my wanted list VERY strictly next time and only get small and light items... [:I]

EDIT:

How LONG are the shocks actually (fully extended, distance between mounting hole centers)? [8D]

According to the data on Tower Hobbies, they are 4"/100mm but I'm not sure whether that's between the hole-centres or 'overall'. My plan is to use the supplied tubing to restrict the length by 5mm or so. According to the manual the KBF needs 92/93mm but I won't really know how it will turn out until I build the darn thing! Will post some pics when it's done - metallic blue paint (minimal decals), chrome rims, chrome roll-bar (when I can get one) and silver shocks - should look ok [:)]
