Has anyone heard of this service? Here is a link http://www.auctionsniper.com/ I have been using it for about 6 months now. It works very slick. It will automatically place your bid within your specified time from the auction close. I find it handy as I don't have to wake up at 3 in the morning or cut short an engagement to rush home to place a bid. It's free to try and then very cheap afterwards. If you do decide to sign up, use me as a reference "shodog1" so I will get 3 freebies. I am not affiliated with this company other than being satisfied with their service.

That's the one thing that really nurks me about ebay!

Before now, I've woken up at 5 a.m. just to sit there, refreshing one window, whilst having a second open ready to place another bid.

I used to shop at a place called onsale.com. It was an auction site for computer related products. Their auctions automatically extended if a bid placed in the last minute or so. It's great for the seller, and is probably the most fair way to doi things, but as a buyer, I really hated it. I would probably not shop on ebay as much if they did that.

I have to say that I've never gotten out of bed, or left early from somewhere for an ebay auction. I have left the dinner table a few times though.

Japanese auction sites operate in the above mentioned manner - no bidding in the last minute - however if you place a bid before the last minute - the entire auction is extended for another 5 minutes!!

Great for the seller - but very nerve wracking for the bidders !!

That sniper service sounds real good !!

Cheers

icon_smile_question.gif Is this program fair to other bidders? I think you'd have a huge advantage over the others. Are you sure it's 'legal' according to the user agreement of EBay and stuff? Maybe not.... icon_smile_shock.gif Maybe you should do it the old fashioned way, gettting up at some absurd time in the middle of the night... If you haven't got a life anyway... icon_smile_wink.gif LOL If I'd do that my mum would kill me, but she can't: she's asleep then... icon_smile_clown.gificon_smile_evil.gificon_smile_wink.gif I don't shop often at the Bay anyway, still got 0 feedback... icon_smile_sad.gif

And it sound really unfair getting sniped, so why do it to someone else? icon_smile.gif

Sniping is all part of the game, you snipe and you get sniped.

It a kind of "High risk, High return" sort of thing. When it works you can get yourself a bargain. But, boy, do feel gutted when you snipe too low a figure and don't get time to bid again logo_member2.gif

Sjoerd, Yes it does dissapoint when you get sniped at the last few seconds. Recently I placed a bid for the auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...1766134076&rd=1 as you can see it is a 58001 Porsche RSR 934. I thought I had it with 9 seconds to go. But someone sniped me. He was willing to pay more than I wanted to. If you win something on ebay your paying more than anyone else in the world would.

The reason people snipe is because placing your bids earlier does one of two things. For bidders it only needlessly drives the price up on the item. look at the NIB Rough Rider on eaby right now. For sellers, that high bid with 3 days to go might discourage other would be bidders from placing their bid.

Sniping is the only way to play. If I want something, then I will snipe it. If someone snipes me, good for them. They wanted it more than I did. What I can't understand is why people get so bent out of shape when they get sniped. There's 50 million threads about it in the ebay forums. People will whine and cry about it like you chopped their arm off. Give me a break! It's not like you (or me) need the item to survive! There will almost always be an identical or similar item in the future to bid on.

Actually, what I hate that is happening more and more is that people end an auction I'm either watching or bidding on early, giving me no chance to win it or be sniped !!

I find that I have got to e-mail the seller first to see if he or she will sell the item just so no one else beats me to it!!!

As for the sniping thing, well if I can't sit up to the last second I just put a bid in for an item nice and early, sometimes I get a bargain, sometimes I miss out, either way no big deal.

I would rather deal with someone I know and trust for something I need, even if that meant paying a little more.

I hate these programs!! I've had this done to me a few times lately and to be honest it gets on my t*ts. The auction should be person against person and not against a computer. It sucks! I think E-bay should be cracking down on this sort of thing.

I agree with hotgolf. If you are a sniper, and most of us are, why take most of the fun out of it by using an automatic sniper? It's a heck of a lot of fun as a buyer to try to outwit someone in the last 30 seconds. Also, if you are the seller, it's fun to watch the bidding run up in the last 30 seconds or so as you sit there hitting the Refresh icon.

Also, I've often wondered why not have a silent auction option? You submit your bid anytime within the 7 day period, no one sees it until the auction ends and then all the bids are revealed and the top bid wins, whether it is 1 cent or $100 above the next highest bid. Could be interesting ....

Ok, admission of sadness time

I set my alarm to wake me at 03:50 this morning so I could bid on a RR body - I was already bidding on one that ended at 02:29 but it was a new seller, so I thought I'd leave it and see what happened.

Anyway, the one I woke up for went for $290 and I got the one I let slide for $204.50 - shoulda stayed asleep!

Keep 'em crossed he ships it!

eBay should just let ppl name a closing time & date, like some other auction sites. Having it close only & exactly 3/5/7/10 days from listing is a little inflexible.

Auction sniper appears to be safe. I have never had any problems with the service. Newbie whoever bids the most money is going to win the auction regardless if 2 or 10 snipers are on the auction.

I had great fun sniping my FAV, waited while the last 30 seconds and won, two other snipers where outgunned who also bid within the last minute of the auction,

Have been outgunned myself on numerous occasions, its all part of the fun.

Don't take life too serious, you'll never make it out alive!
