I was wondering because i dont like auctions with buy now.

And i had a volvo 850 on ebay a few weeks back and only made small money yet the same week 1 with no pic made £100.00

I think i scared bidders with the buy now option

If the buy it now is realistic - then great ........there will always be some "speculators" that will place a bid to get rid of the buy it now - hoping that they win for a lesser amount - more often than not though - the auction goes higher.

I personally like them - if they are reasonable - I will "buy it now"......

It is a very personal thing though - each to their own.

It is the sellers risk............you just never know with ebay.

I prefer 'buy it nows' just makes the whole thing much more straight forward, like going to a shop.

Bidding/auctions etc is much more of a pain, but I can understand why people do it, especially if you are not sure what something is worth.

I prefer But it now only auctions. If somebody wants it i have found they usually pay what i ask. I set my price similar to recent prices of the same condition.

If its me buying i would use the But it Now option if its reasonable because 1) i want the parts as soon as possible (very impatient) 2) I often forget about the auction and forget to bid 3) somebody else could make the bidding go over the buy it now price if the reserve is met. I can remember the new in pack scorcher front bumper from modelman recently. Buy it now for 28 pounds which i missed by a few min utes. Somebody hit the lower reserve but the final price was about 35 pounds i think. Missed a good price there.

Just my thoughts...

I agree with Darryn, all depends if BIN price is reasonable.

Just lately I got;

Holiday Bug with brand new body - £100

NIB Scorcher Decals - £50

Full set of HB rims and tyres - £28

3 pair Lancia/Pajero tyres - £20

I don't feel ripped off on any of them, and with BIN it's a done deal, no last minute 'snipers' - well worth paying a few quid over the odds if you need it.

From a selling point, I used BIN once without any luck, but maybe the reserve was too near the BIN? Auction ended £3 under reserve, and I got no reply from top bidder.

Well i have to say all the ones with with BIN only have sold so far (about 15 Tamiya items) If i set a reserve and a BIN i found people often do not meet reserve and i have to lower the price. I know its risky with only a BIN but if you set a good BIN then it should sell.

You can usually guess the reserve by the BIN anyway as a BIN of 100 ponds would be around 80-90. i.e 10-20% less than the BIN fee.

What i hate is when you can't sell something for say 15 pounds BIN one week and the next week somebody else sells one for nearly twice what your BIN amount was in a normal auction.

Never mind, all good fun in the end icon_smile.gif

I like BIN. What I don't like is you see a buy-it-now, but by the time you click it, someone has 'broken' the buy-it-now by bidding $1 for the item, I guess to deny someone else from snatching up the item. I generally don't break the BIN unless I'm buying it. However, a small reserve price is nice to see so you can bid on the item and add it to your list without breaking the BIN.

Part of the game, but it's annoying. It's not like I'm trying to buy food for my family on e-bay or anything, so I don't get too worked up over it.

I have bought a few things BIN. And I've missed a bunch more, like the (supposedly) unused Audi Quattro with a mostly clear body for $45 a few days back.

I like BIN, as long as the seller doesn't want me to take a bank loan out!! If its a good price i would rather buy it outright rather than bid. It makes more sense. Both buyer and seller are happy.

I got to laugh at people who put a BIN price in which is about twice the going cost. But they can always dream, lol.

It's not Tamiya, but I got a completely new built Schumacher Shotgun truck a while back for AUS$90 Buy It Now... I consider that to be a great deal, since I have a few of them as runners!! Just too scared to take it into the dirt....

I prefer Buy it nows, if the price is right, I also consider buying even if i think the price is just a little high ,as in the past it nearly always goes over then i kick myselflogo_member2.gif

From a seller's point of view - WHY would sellers bother paying eBay extra for the "BIN" option??

Sure it might trawl in an impatient buyer if the price is attractive... but surely that negates the purpose of an auction?

Nup, can't see the point.

What gets me mad is when a seller lists an item with a BIN but no reserve price. By the time it shows up on my search, usually within an hour or two, someone often has bid the minimum opening price and the BIN is no longer available, even though it still shows a BIN on the search listing. The seller has just wasted the listing price of the BIN and potentially missed out on extra money. For example, I recently saw a kit I wanted listed with a $200 BIN, but some clown bid $1 within minutes after it was listed and the BIN was off. I eventually got the kit for $165, so that seller missed out on an extra $35. Also, that guy that bid $1 never bid again on that item. I have noticed quite a few buyers who routinely put down the minimum opening bid on dozens of items, yet rarely come even close to being the winning bidder. I guess that's fun for some guys??

I wish the BIN option would stay available for the first 24 hours of a listing. That would give more buyers the opportunity to see the item and decide if they wanted it bad enough to use the BIN.

Ya, exactly like I said... why would a seller bother paying the BIN fee only to be disadvantaged??

imho if the BIN feature is paid for, I think it should stay there until the end of auction. Unless of course someone has *bid* more than the BIN price...!! (not much surprises us on eBay anymore)

Absolutely agree, there are many unneccesary auctions with $1 starting bid, no reserve and BIN as well as some people just bidding to take the BIN off and don't bid again...

You don't even need to put reserve, you can put intial bid price like 2/3s of the BIN price..

As a complete novice at this eBay lark, I wouldn't use the BIN feature simply beacuse I don't know what these models are worth and so would be worried about paying over the odds for them.

If I did - I would probably be a ****** with the BIN button.

Just my 2p worth.
