I am getting pretty tired of this message at e-Bay.[:(!]

What is it with American pepole?

If the buyer pays for the shippig, i can not see the problem in

sending a package to another country!

It's just plain easier to ship within one country, one less form to fill out. And it's just not americans, other nationalities do this as well.

I just think with the number of americans on ebay, it would be more common to come across american sellers.

There's also the language factor, not everyone can be trusted to understand english fully which can lead to more complications.

I think that some people just don't know how easy it is to ship something out of the country. There are a few reasons that it is a hassle. You can't track whether the shipment made it or not. sometimes there are problems when cashing a foreign money order. I always try to get my foreign buyers to use Paypal for payment.

when you limit your auctions to US your excluding alot of bidders that mibht be willing to pay more for your item.

There was an auction for a complete Mounty rollbarr Which I really needs to complete mine. Also a case of local shipping (USA) only.

The bad thing is I was willing to pay more than the final bid.

for me I sometimes restricted to my country only as I needed the deal done and dusted quickly.

I find waiting on cheques/cash/ money orders, or whatever, can sometimes take too long, esp. if you need some spare cash to buy that elusive car or part and your Wife/ G.F. /Mum / significant other won't let you spend any of 'their' money !!!

Also time differences can make communicating a little trickier.

We here are maybe just used to dealing with that whole world where some people would rather keep things in their own back yard.

None of them are right or wrong, and as long as I know ahead of time that a seller won't ship, then I do not have a problem and just move on to the next item.

Happy Holidays !!

i dont want to start anything either but i do notice the american crowd on ebay to be stingy on shipping..ive had items sent from the u.s. quite quickly....i dont know why this is an issue to them,im

sure they have theyre reasons.im in the market for new car audio

stuff and an american seller lost out on $10000 worth of equipment i was going to buy,for the fact they do not ship to canada, their loss, not mine.......

I don't understand it either. I would ship anywhere. Why would the seller care if the buyer pays shipping anyway? I think maybe they think they are going to be paid in GBP or something and get freaked out. Plus, alot of us Americans are ignorant about foreign anything. Were are sort of secluded over here, hogging half the continent and all.

Here is why some people do not send outside the US...

For US postal service, when sending outside the US they require a deposit of some type, usually credit card, to secure the return trip should it not be deliverable or the person refuses to take delivery.

This is not the case with EVERYTHING and every situation. Some carriers will just require a COD to get the item out of hawk...if you do not caugh up the money, they sue you.

Yeah, you get the money up front for the product, but in some cases, it will cost you MORE than what the product is worth should the person refuse delivery. Then you are stuck with a bill you HAVE to pay.

I ship anywhere in the world, but all it takes is to be burned once and you start to get skiddish about shipping world wide.

hi

the best way if they don't send overseas is find a good mate who will take delivery for you and then send it on its what i do it costs a little more for p & p but if you need the parts or the car it's worth it

From reading ebays message boards, the most common reason to not ship internationally for established sellers is they use UPS for shipping, which is picked up at home/office, no post office trip, where a wait could be 30 minutes or more to ship a package (so they claim).

I wish I had kept the links but I saw two auctions end around the same time a few weeks or so ago. One sold for about $1050 (US only), another $1500 (ships internationally). Both winners were US buyers, but the second highest bidder (who therefore pushed the price up) was from Hong Kong.

Usually its ignorance, when you explain them that its not much extra trouble and you can pay them instanteously through Paypal 90% accept, the rest usually doesn't even give a reason why not, but those are anyway the sellers you wouldn't want to deal with in first place [;)][}:)]

Then don't get political. This is TamiyaClub, not bashUSAClub. I don't come here to get insulted for where I come from. The people in my country are no stupider than the people in yours (not claiming we're smarter either)..

I don't sell on ebay, but if I did, and if there really is no way to track delivery, then I would be reluctant to ship internationally. Nothing personal. I think someone on TC (I *think* it was a TC member) was recently burned when someone 'claimed' to not receive something which was shipped with unconfirmed delivery and the seller had the money removed from their account. In the meantime, the person found their stuff on ebay for sale by the scammer.

That was me. I got burned out of a set of Monster Beetle P&Q parts. the guy was in the US and I should have put a delivery confimation on the item. The buyer http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?...3&all=1&rows=25 is no longer a user of ebay as he burned a few others

I only said it for 2 reasons, One cause I knew it would wind up some people, and amuse others! And a survey in a British newspaper the other month surveyed 100 people in New York, most people didn't know where Iraq etc was,one person didn't know where Canada was!![:D]

I do think the reason is tho like you said most people could do without the hassle. At least if you get ripped of by someone in your own country you feel like you could go round their house with some friends!![}:)] Or get the local bobbies round![:)]

One thing I think is interesting tho, that some people will only ship to the 48 states! Is it suddenly more difficult to ship to Alaska?

Would they ship to US Bases? That's a way of getting stuff cheap as a base is part of the US so you don't pay taxes (cheap fuel too)

I do think it's true that Americans in general aren't as familiar with other countries. With the exception of Canada, to go to another country, we have to go to another CONTINENT. Also, most of us don't know a second language and have no concept of the metric system. It's just that alot of Americans don't know, don't have to, and don't care.

I dont normally ship int'l becasue my University post office can not do it and I dont have time to go to another one. I certainly dont want the bidder to have to wait for me to find time to go to the post office which usually means waiting until the weekend. I find it extremly rude when people go ahead and bid on my items without asking if I will send it to their country, especially when they BIN and I cant cancel their bid immedialty. Some idiots even estimate the shipping on their own (they are usually wrong) and that causes more problems. I guess my point it I really wish they would ask first that way I can explain the situation and they can decide if they want to proceed rather than just assuming that "it is no big deal"

Posted

The only really annoying parts is when you see something with a BIN price that you want to pay but it is "US only"

I have in the past bought the item before it was sold and then asked the person if they would ship international but explaining it was something I wanted a lot and did'nt want to lose it. I then say if they don't want to ship to europe I will arrange somebody in the US to get it and send it on.

I'm sure there are people in the club from the states that would recieve and forward.

This gives the seller a choice and it is not rude and rule breaking. I think most people are prepared to send overseas if you speak with them personally and explain things, specially if you use PayPal because they get their money straight away.

I have never had problems with buying items on eBay that says "ship to US only" each time I e-mailed the seller asking if I could bid on their auction and use PayPal they have always said yes.

Me too. The only time you don't want to ask is when the BIN price is good and you don't want someone to get it before you get an answer.

Then my way of giving them a choice covers this problem.

Ok, I am in the US and want to expand my bidders by shipping to Europe. But I do not want to take Paypal, hate those fees. What is the best/safest method for getting paid.

What is the best method to ship to Europe?

Where else should I ship to for club members?

What else should I know/avoid.

If I were you I would join up with paypal. Although they do charge a fee, Your auctions that accept Paypal will usually end for higher amounts as opposed to auctions that don't accept Paypal. Paypal is easy to use, this encourages bidders. Bidders can put the purchase on their credit card to pay for a a larger purchase over a few months. I am not advoacting credit card debt. If the bidders choose to pay that way then it is their perogative.

I have had problems with International money orders and my bank. Save the hassle and have your bidders pay by sending cash by registered mail.

For shipping you could use Fed Ex. Totally trackable but oh so expensive. I use USPS to ship internationally. Knock on wood I have never had a problem. USPS has pretty fair shipping costs. always use the smallest box you can get away with. They base part of the postage not only on the weight of the package but also the size. many UK residents have to pay a customs tax when they get the package. You need to keep shipping costs low to make your auctions attractive.

Hey wait a minute I just gave away all my secrets

I buy from sellers in the states quite often (useful when my real cars are a Cadillac & a Pontiac & I need parts). The way I get around sellers who will only ship within the USA is to use a friend of mine who lives in Florida to receive the goods for me, then he forwards them to me........bit long winded & a bit more costly, but if you REALLY want something its worth it. Also means the goods are checked by him before they leave the states & avoids any import duty if you are buying from a company.

As we are an international community here, would any of the USA members be prepared to help out the rest of us this way???

Just an idea for those of you who have these sort of problems.....

I have done that for several overseas buyers, including Tamiya Club members. It works really well especially for purchases from stores and online sites here in the US that I know won't ship overseas. Tower Hobbies always has a $10 or more discount available for purchases, so that offsets the initial shipping cost from Tower to me, and the overseas buyer then only pays the actual cost from me to them. I don't mind doing this extra bit of shipping, as my overseas contacts sometimes find things for me that I can't locate here in the states.
