Although I don't like it, it's his right to choose to sell it or not. I noticed that the auction is closed, did you email and talk to him.

well i think if a person sells a gift item from someone, they have a right to do what they wish with it,but to use other peoples descriptions is wrong,& in this case i agree with jerry 100%....stickers?....lol...silly... sanja.

Selling a gift on ebay is somewhat cheesy IMHO.

Buying something and selling it at a profit is the way the world works. We don't complain when we purchase something stuff from the 'big sellers'. They are obviously selling stuff that they purchased earlier. I personally don't think reusing a description is so bad, but I can understand how that would bug people.

Selling something that was given as a gift is pretty poor form in my opinion. However some people have more "scruples" than others......each to their own - it is the individual who has to "live" with themselves...[:D]

I agree - however "most" big sellers have gone to the trouble of sourcing and finding these parts privately - rather than buying from other sellers on ebay......there however a few shoddy exceptions......but that is not for discussion here.[B)]

My two cents.

You guys really frown upon re-ebay of things purchased on ebay? Is this considered bad etiquette or is there some unwritten ebay'ers code? I'm not being sarcastic or trying to start an argument, it's just something I would not think twice about doing if the situation arose.

Seriously, I'd like to understand why this is wrong. Teach me some manners. I can take it.

Don't we have better things to do than worry about than who is selling what on ebay. If it rightly belongs to the person, give me one reason why he can't pass it along? I think the whole concept of a gift is that you give something freely without expecting anything in return. What the person does afterwards is his business.

No, no such thing. All's fair in trading... its a free world.

Lots of guys buy and then re-sell later, either because they're tired of the thing or they've found something better. Or worse, just run outta space for new junk. No law against reselling.

But like bholio says, selling a gift might be a bit cheesy (naff?).

That probably stems from the "white elephant concept".

I'll explain...

In ancient Thailand (pre Surikarn, yay!), the elephant was

considered a sacred animal. The animals were revered but were still

allowed to work for a living (pre bulldozers and backhoes too, obviously).

All except for the white (albino) ones, which were most rare.

The King of Thailand used to giveaway elephants as gifts of honour.

His best followers who received these gifts would never dare to

giveaway, resell or kill these elephants - as that would be the

same as shunning the King's generousity... "just not on".

Occasionally some citizens would do something that displeased the

King... and when the situation warranted, the King would bestow

the gift of a White Elephant. Upon receipt, the elephant had to

be cared for as well as any other grey cousin, but it was not

allowed to work. Generally this would mean financial poorhouse

for the recipient, just keeping up with the maintenance of the

white elephant without any chance of income from its working.

And elephants usually outlive humans!! [:I]

So yeah, generally ppl don't like others profiteering on gifts,

but heck, those stickers were only listed at 99c.

Maybe Jerry got slighted at the (low) price. [B)][:P]

Sometimes people find they just cant afford the items. People buy with a specific project in mind, 2 weeks later move on to something else, and scrap the parts and project the were working on. Thats the beauty of it., buying low selling high or im my case buying high and selling low when its rent time. [:(]

Me personally... never, not from memory anyway.

But it might get to the time when one has "too much" to store them all, we'll get to that bridge in due course.

Then there's also the dilemma when 'parts' are gifted to you; what to do then? Say someone's stuck your ribbon stickers onto something, Jerry - what to do then?

Or when good friend 'sells' you something cheaply because he knows you'll never sell it for profit. That raises some ethical issues too.

If you ask, me, selling a gift is 'not done'... [V]

Also, I only got my Martini Mk.22 Renault in the promise of never selling it. I guess I'll keep it as I don't want my head to be seperated from my neck...! [;)] [:o]

But the main reason I'll never sell it is because it keeps the lid of my aquarium in place so I need it badly... [:o)]

Never. Especially something like those decals which seem to be more like a gift of friendship than anything else.
