Man I just hate it when someone waits ‘til last few seconds before the end of an auction

and just in and bids.[:(!] Look if they want to bid on the item fine just be a little more civilized about

it.

I’ve got this great idea that would put an end to snipping. If someone were to bid in the

minute or so of an auction e-bay could extend that auction by say five minutes. That way the auction would run until everybody is done bidding. E-bay could even add an icon to it

to show that’s it’s a hot item.

Some will say that this would only drive the prices up, but I don’t think so. In the long run

items are only going to sell for so much.

What do you all think about the so call “art†of snipping?

Anyway just my two “copper plate zinc pennies worth†[:P]

Steve

P.S. I going to keep a list of all e-bayers that have snipped me and I wont deal with them at all (buy or sell)[;)]

Boy now I feel lots better[:I] I think I'll slam a cold one and watch the

tube[:P]

Snipping is an art,

Why would you impliment a system that would make prices higher, causing more stiffed payments.

If you wanted it bad enough anyway you should have known when the auction ended.

Why be more civilized about it? If I want civilized about my selling or buying, then I post an add here. If I'm looking for the lowest possible buck then, I'm off to ebay with my sniper rifle in my hand.[:0]

I get home jump on the puter and see an auction(haven't been on ebay for days first time back on), it has 30 second left, enter my user name -15 seconds left, enter my bid 5 seconds left, and then I win. Did I snipe you?<-maybe, who knowsid="red">. Did I break any rules? Nopeid="green"> Better yet, what if the above happened to you? Would you hold off the bid because it wasn't civilizedid="Impact">?

Sounds to me like you didn't bid high enough. If you did, his/her snipe would have never mattered. That's the only true way to beat the snipe. You can't bargin hunt on ebay and not expect to be sniped.

You know the old saying: "You can't have your cake, and Edith too"

BTW and OFF TOPIC, I chose Edith a long time ago. She left me -lesson of the day- always take the cakeid="red">id="Times New Roman">[:P]

That's your right as an ebayer. IMO that will only hurt you in the end. Yes I do see the smiley face but remember to every joke is a tiny bit of truth.

Look at it this way:

Sniping is part of ebay. I for one love it, saves me money, lets me bid on items when I'm at work, prevents me from doing impulse bids, etc etc.

Anywho enjoy your beer, badword maybe have another.

This topic has been beat to death in these here forums previously. (A search should show you plenty!) The simple truth is you did not bid enough. Game over. Insert quarter, play again. There is nothing immoral, illegal or even fattening about sniping.

I can understand your being upset. I am glad you feel better now! [:D]

Sniping is a skill developed with practice. I guess someday I'll end up on your list then! [:0]

Hey guys don't be mad at me. I said what I said because that's

how I feel. Look at the auctions I've won I've never sniped anyone!

I don't think it's right. I think snipping is a game and as that

it may be fun to those that do it. I'm just not into it that's all.

BTW the "cold one tured out to be an A&W"

We all see the auctions as they come up and we all know when they

are going end. there is plenty of time to bid you want the stuff.

Anyway again don't be mad OK!

Steve

You're right about not bidding enough!

Hey I think I know Edith she ran off with my cake[:(]

Yep, add me to that list as well, secret ebay code name is Woobergoober. I definately always got my sniper rifle, locked cocked and ready to make grown ups cry when I bid. I personally am running on a budget, I just can not play games witht these auctions. See ya!

Easy way round it - bid $1,000,000 on each thing you want to win

You may end up paying more due to snipers upping your proxy bid, but they'll never go THAT high - will they?

At the end of the day, ebay encourages you to bid the highest you can afford, so if you do that at the start, you'll either win or you won't regardless of 'grassy knoll' shoppers.

If you and someone else on here did that you would be paying it for the rest of your life!

Oh yeah[;)]

Basically, ebay could stop sniping by 'applications' such as auction sniper but they'll never stop people manually bidding at the last minute.

Extending the auction by 5 minutes won't solve anything either.

The only way not to get sniped is only bid on auctions that finish during the Friday update, but this limits your options.

If you bid your MAXIMUM you're either going to win or you're not - simple as that.

Hi guys,

I was just wondering where the sniper draws the line. If he sees auction that he’s just about

to snip then notices that a friend of his has already bid on the item does he, as a “true†sniper

snip anyway and if so what does his friend think of that. If not, way not?. All’s fare on e-bay

right? If a sniper bid on an item and doesn’t win, all he did is drive the price up

thanks for the links. I’ve never used the search option before. I’ve found lots of neat stuff with

it :-) and your right this subject has been over done.

Snipping is just the process of putting last minute bids in. It doesn't matter wether its automatic or not. And thats just part of good bidding practice, if you want to increase your chances of winning. There is nothing illegal or unfair about it, anyone can do it. As has been said many times before in this thread and previous ones on the subject the bottom line is the person that bids the most wins. Its not worth getting worked up over - as all you are getting frustrated over is someone is prepared to pay more than you for an item and this will always happen in auctions. If it causes you stress then you should try and avoid auctions[;)]

Personally I use automated systems to bid some mainly because I can set them up when I see them and then forget about them. No more getting up in the middle of the night or last minute problems connecting/bidding. Complaining about these systems is a bit like complaining some people have more reliable broad band connections than you (this is 'you' as in generally not aimed at anyone here), which means they can leave there bidding till the last secound and still get it in. Sure that means they have an advantage but thats just life. They pay the premium, they get the benefit.

If I see another club member has bid on something, then I'll usually talk to them first about what they will go up to - but this is a very dangerous game. Just because a friend is the highest bidder does not mean that if you don't snipe they will win the auction, someone else can come along and outbid them just as easily. This way you both loose out. Imagine how frustrating that would be - you were prepared to pay $100 for something but a 'friend' is winning at $50.00 so you leave it and they get out bid and it goes to someone else for $75.00[V]

From a buying point of view ebay is just a game, you are playing on a world stage with lots of other people. Some people have more money, some people have more time and some people use the tools that are avaiable to everyone and others don't. You win some, you lose some. If I had got frustrated every time someone out bid me (which is all sniping is) I'd be one bitter and twisted individual right now. Instead now when I loose it just makes me laugh and applaud those people that have played 'the game' better than me.[^] (and yes, I have bid on lots of things which is desperately wanted but lost...)

Just feeling a bit philosophical after meeting so many great people at the weekends snetterton meeting...
