i have just got my old king blackfoot out of the loft and went to give it a test today.

before i took it out i noticed the steering seemed a bit loose but could see no obvious reason why, i then did take it out and try it, when i drive forward the car drifts to the left and when i put it in reverse it just goes everywhere apart from where i want it to go, it basically snakes backwards.

has any one else had this problem before and what is the cause of it

This sounds similar to how my Manta Ray behaves and on that car the size of the hole in which the steering tie-rod is led is too large causing the right tire to swivel more than the left one. Either the steering tie-rod has to be adjusted or replaced something must be used to fill in the hole.

The central steering mounting point (the pole where the tie rods are on - with the wheels on the other ends). That was causing me some trouble with my KBF... [:)]

The most likely reason for this problem is a loose servo saver screw. In step 9 of the instructions, the servo saver is mounted to part B6 with a 3mm nut on the underside. This is not locknut, so from experience of servicing many customers' King Blackfoots I know this nut tends to come loose. Sometimes it is even lost before the owner notices the problem and stop driving the model. Check that 3 x 25mm screw, and tighten if necessary. Don't forget to put Loctite on the nut!

When you're at it, put Loctite on the the 3mm nuts that hold the ball connectors on the underside of the servosaver too!
