I have sold a few bits and bobs on Ebay this year and like most auctions i put in a BIN option so people can snap it up quickly for whatever reason. I choose a BIN price for a number of reasons, usualy experience from what i have seen previously on Ebay, and obviously a price that i would be happy getting for the item. Some people will always think that BIN are too expensive but I would say that 85% of all my auctions end with a BIN. I never (or very rarely) have a reserve on an auction, so if a person bids below the BIN, the BIN option disappears. The stupid thing is, that more often than not, the person who puts in that first bid (therefore eliminating the BIN)usually ends up bidding the price up against other bidders and ends up paying often quite a bit more than the BIN price!!! To me, that makes no sence. They must have a limit as to what they will pay for an item, so if the BIN is within that limit, why not just get it and be done with it? Is this common in any of you guys auctions, or does it only happen in mine? I'm not moaning about the money...coz I get more [:D], but it just seems wierd to me!

Anyway...check out my auctions if you want some beetle body parts, or a great deal on a NIB F201 or Chevy S10.

I have had the same thing happen to me a number of times. There are a small minority of punk users out there that are just BIN option spoilers. All they do is bid your minimum just to remove your BIN option and then they never bid again. Really I think ebay should keep the BIN option for the full length of the auction.

Whether to use the BIN price or not is up to you. While some BIN's are outragious, others are within a few bucks of what it would probably end for. On those rare ocassions, it's a smokin deal. Snollan can elaborate better on those instances.

For me, I would rather pay a few extra bucks to know that the item is mine. 9 times out of 10 their is someone willing to beat you out in the last second of an auction.

I've always thought the Buy It Now should stay available for 24 hours, unless someone uses it. That gives more potential buyers a chance to use it, especially those whose jobs preclude them from viewing eBay during their working hours.

The most irritating bidders are the ones who place the initial $1 bid, nothing higher, and the Buy It Now is then gone.

I've seen auctions going with the BIN and bids were in. Also in those same auctions there was a reserve price, which I am assuming allows the BIN to stay in effect untill the reserve is met.

Yes, the "buy it now" option disappears once any bid is placed IF there is no reserve. If there's a reserve...the "buy it now" stays up 'till reserve is met. I list most of my auctions with a "starting" bid VERY close to my "buy it now" price. It astounds me every time I receive eMAIL, from bidder, asking "what happened to the buy-it-now feature?" 99% of these eMAILs are from the 1st bidder who's tried to save a few $$$$$ by bidding only the minimum.[:0][:0][:0]

Guilty as charged [V]

But sometimes I've seen auctions go around a couple of times. Nobody bids, so I figure I can save a few bucks and put the money towards shipping. [;)]

Then it happens, I attract bidders who drive the price up. [:(]

I was recently checking my account to see if I could afford a radio box when somebody killed the BIN option with a flaky bid, so I just bid the BIN price by proxy 4 days (I think) before end of auction and won[:D] weird thing is a privious bidder took me right upto Bin price EXACTLY[?]

WOW my 100th Post[:D] I'd like to thank the crew the production team my mum & dad and of course anyone I forgot to mention.

O.K. I've done my forum search & no matches, Whats a shill bider? I've got a pretty good idea, but how do they know the amount to stop at?

This is Ebay's description

"Shill bidding is the deliberate use of secondary registrations, aliases, family members, friends, or associates to artificially drive up the bid price of an item. (This is also known as "bid padding.")"

What a fantastic idea![^] Thanks mr crossie.[:o)]

I suppose thats why we get second chance offers when somebody 'over pads' and ends up winning, and the non paying winner does'nt end up with neg feedback. I have a name of sombody who tried to stiff me like this (contact me if your interested) and it all makes sense now.

Hi All. I will probably get some emails about his but here goes. If you have an item that has a true buynow price, you can put it on Ebay with a minimum opening bid and no reserve and no buynow price. You can state in the description that IF you see a bid of $xxxx, you will stop the auction and sell to the high bidder as per Ebay's rules. This will save you the $.05 and your buynow price is not affected by anybody's bids.

I agree that Ebay should let the buynow price ride for a while (24 hours?) to give all the bidders a chance. I doubt that Ebay will ever get rid of the BN option. It usually means more money in their pocket. Jim

If we all could go back in time, what would you do.....buy up Sandscorchers & Blazers..........or stock in Ebay?

When I have multiples of the same item... I'll re-list an item if anyone bids the starting bid instead of using "but it now" feature. The re-listed item will have a starting bid of $1.00 below "buy it now" feature. Beleive-it-or-not.... some will continue to run-up bids on the 1st auction, instead of "buying" 2nd item![:0] AND... if I list a item in "fixed price" category, bidders will often wait 'till the last few minutes to buy it![:(] After nearly 2000 auctions, I've concluded many simply want to "win" the auction at the last second, regardless of price![;)]
