Honestly I think the rule of posting no live auction links is silly. Case in point was the post about the Opel Ascona Rally. All you had to do is a little searching. Really it was no different than posting a live link. All it did was give people the incentive to search and find out what people were talking about. There were probably more hits to that auction because there wasn't a link than if there was a link provided.

I know the reason the rule is in place. Unfairly bashing on a car or seller. Posting that hidden "NIB snad scocrher" with the $150 buy it now price. This is the only message board I frequent that has a no live ebay link rule. It doesn't seem to be a problem on the other boards so why is it a problem here. I think it's that people need to grow up. They need to engage their brain before posting a bash on a seller or thrashed car. They need to get over the "I found it first it's my auction syndrome" Ebay is a worldwide site, you better bid big or face the chance of getting sniped with 6 seconds to go.

I gotta agree, all this cloak and dagger "search for the one armed man" does my head in, it's really gotta be one or the other, let it happen or ban it altogether.

The main point I can see from the clubs side, is the 'interference' issue - some people are going to slag off a 'poor example' whether they think it thru or not (I got had on the 9/11 maxx body). Whether there are serious ramifications for TC to allow bad comment on an auction, I don't know, but I can see the view of not wanting to take the risk.

As far as the 'I found it etc.....' frame of mind goes, nothing is that hard to find, especially with the right 'key' words, and if that fails, just look through the entire RC section every now and then.

A mate of mine only ever searches for 'Sand Scorcher' or 'Rough Rider', but when you explain the concept of 'Tamiya Buggy' and 'Tamiya Truck' as search options, you just get this stunned look!

'Tamyia' brings up some cool stuff from time to time too.

Nothing on ebay is hidden, just takes a time to find sometimes

Uh oh, Shodog, I agree completely, but I am afraid as we speak, Chris is furiously typing a 20 page response to your post, I picture a mad man, just bashing on his keyboard, spit a flying, fingers a whir. Just kidding of course, just got to razz Mr. Netsmith a little. I have a feeling though, without looking at previous posts, it has something to do with people who already have a particular car or part, and ruining somebody elses edge by pointing out a flaw, or offering a hint that 3/4 of the people would have never caught thus making the said item sell for much more than it would have otherwise. Maybe Im off base, but I know there are things I literally stumble across, ie, a recent auction win of 4 fuse things for the ss nib, a pack of rod stoppers, nib, and a rubber parts and switch cover

nib, all for 1.00 each, simply because the guy listed them as literally what they were, ie, rod stoppers, and in the auction description, he put they fit, ss, sc, rr. I am kinda glad nobody else caught that one, because I definately found it by pure luck.

Spiff I agree with you, this has been good sometimes, but as one of the moderators, it gets by far the most attention from us.

Also as you will see this thread has already got a fair amount of attention, it's one of those things that everyone seems to have an opinion on.

I like Steve's view of not talking about them until they are over, and I like it because that's what we have now for the most part.

Some people just get a bit enthusiastic about E-Bay from time to time.

No essays this time - been through it enough times already.

Please read this thread, ALL the way through to see reasons.

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/topic.asp?...884&whichpage=1

in particular the bit were I talk about how little we actually lose by having this rule.

quote:
NO POST TO LIVE EBAY AUCTIONS - unless you are promoting your own

(and that includes , posting descriptions, auciton numbers, sellers details etc which would help you find a live auction)

id="quote">id="quote">

This is from the first post - I don't know how to say it any clearer.

The Ascona thread had no need to 'search ebay' if all you wanted to do was discuss the pro's and con's of the model in general, so even if everyone had followed the rules the thread could still have been discussed.

This forum was on the brink of being closed a few months back because of all the hassle it was causing. Since we have had this rule its pretty much ran as smooth as a babies bottom.

I thought it was all rather simple really.

When you signed up for the forum - you all agreed to stick to the "RULES" of the forum.

Nothing has changed - and if it has - you have all had plenty of warning and chances to change our minds through open discussion on this forum.

Lately , things have been pretty good I think.

All pretty simple ? [:D]

Well i think there should be allowed to post links to live auctions.

This i s MY opinion, and do not misunderstand me

But who is in charge of deciding these things when we will start to pay for using this site?

Will there come more rules like this later on?

Is it not a idea to have a voting poll of things like this?

If the majority of the forum users want to see live e-bay auctions, i think it is a good policy to do so. And if the majority will have it the way it is now, Well that's the way it is,. And we must bend for that.

Well i just want to know...[8)]

Hi Grusomkis

All opinions are welcome here. In answer to your question...

Who is in charge of making decisions when you are a paid up member?

I am. The decision making process will not fundamentally change, please bear this in mind before subcribing if you think it will be an issue for you.

That said I will normally consult with the admins first and possibly open it up to the vote. Unfortuantely this will not always be possible - what users want and what the club can feasibly supply and manage will not always be the same thing. This is no different to how other services work - who can remember the last time ebay took a vote on how it should work?

We'll naturally bend where possible but you have to draw the line somewhere and at the moment the buck stops with me.

Like I said in the link in my first post - we tried it the other way, which depended on people using thier common sense for 18mths - at the end of that we were at a point were the was so much hassle the ebay forum was on the brink of closing. This new system has been running for around 5mths and there have been no problems I can remember - before we make any permanent decisions we will run it for at least a year and the look back and debate it at that point.

Cheers

I think it's worth pointing out again that the club is run by volunteers, even when we will be paying a subscription it will still be volunteers running it.

For me this is one of the most important things to remeber when talking about the site.

Just an edit to point out I uploaded this post at the same time as Grusomkis's last post above and it certainly was'nt aimed at him, just a general thought.

well, i,m no expert on this, but from a buyers point of view, all it does is bump up the price of a potential bargin. there is too much over-priced **** on ebay as it is. i dont mind paying good money for NIB kits or parts, but why should i trawl ebay for incorrectly listed "bargains", only to find someone has also found that same item and blabbed about it on a forum like this and caused the price to get out of hand. i,m watching a couple of "bargains" at the moment, and i,ll be well miffed if word gets out.

from a sellers point of view though, its great!. after all, thats part of the fun selling stuff on eabay!.

personally, i think we ought to keep quiet about them, and only discuss them AFTER the auction has ended. at least that way we all get to "learn" about ways of finding those incorrectly listed potential "bargains" and no-ones paid through the nose for a pile of worn out over priced, used and abused ****.

well, thats my 2 pennies spent!,[;)].

sorry if i,ve upset anyone - not intentional!.

cheers.

OH NO! Phil's gonna stick his oar in[:(]

First up I love you all and want to have your babies.

Second; we should open another forum for discussing the ebay forum. And perhaps another for discussing the wisdom of the ebay discussion forum which is based on the ebay forum.

Third; we should speak in code i.e. 'RECOMENDED A+++++!!!'= 'TWAT'

Fourth; Ebay is our stock market each one of us buys & sells on it and once we are there we are different beasts alltogether. Its like driving, people all get the bit between thier teeth and when at the end of our teather we SNIPE. It brings out the greed driven worst in people. Its a capitalist free market where he with the most cash wins and the poor guy goes without. I'd rather not see that spill into this forum especially as theres not the threat of neg feedback here which I'm sure keeps alot of people in check on ebay.

Fifth; if I were chris or a member of the admin crew I doubt I could be ******* to monitor this forum for slander & deformation of character & playing refferee in handbag fights between seller & mr ripped off. I'd rather be enjoying the site instead of policeing it.

sixth; If every member were like your self Jim i'm sure it would rum smooth as a babies butt without rules, but we're not all as wise and level headed as yourself, I know I'm prone to the odd flare up but I think it's the nature of this site that stops me doing it here, & theres an auction on now which I'd have boiled on given the chance (for no real reason), and what about future members.

Eighth; there is no seventh,

ninth; applogies for long post tried to lighten it with a bit of humour but its my first and last on this one. I've read through the many good points on previous threads in this vein and not wanted to post until I'd formulated a propper opinion (how dull of me).

tenth; point four was the big one in case you missed it.

Night all, thats taken it right outa me [|)][|)][|)]

I should probably lock this thread after Scorchios points as he covered everything and with quite the sense of humour too.

But I think we'll leave it open to see if anyone can top him....

All great points, and looks like the forums will be remaining unchanged at least for now.

Sorry, but could not resist. #1- Scorchio, as long as you are a cute, blonde haired, well endowed woman, the baby comment will be just fine #2- Chris, you said you were not going to write an essay, I knew you would have to eventually #3- Umm, how do you know how smooth a babies butt is?[:D]Mu ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaa!

i think 5 months speaks for its self look what 18 months of hassel caused

some ppl don't think and if live links come back it would be like re-winding back 5 months and carrying on where it was stopped

sry to say if it came to the vote i'd vote for the ban to stay

as members are aloud to post there OWN ebay live links only to stuff there selling (if i remember correct)

Maybe we should define what constitues a good reason to post a live auction. What if the post to the live auction was titled "Does this car look complete." "Is this a tamiya Hornet or Grasshopper?" And not allow a posts like "Check this outragious BIN price" "This car looks stupid"

Jim

Butting in here...

Methinks we should be also be allowed to post links to auctions

where something "dodgy" has happened. Most common is a relisted

item, eg it has been sold before but the deal never consumated.

And for warnings for fraud etc etc to TC members.
