I won't mention any names or ID's, so that this won't get deleted.

I'm not out to badmouth anyone either, I just need advice because I don't know what do do!

Here's my problem:

I recently bought a minidisc changer (car-stereo equipment) from a UK based seller on Ebay.

The seller then sent me an invoice, which I then paid with paypal straight away.

I received the item on the 27th of December.

I then proceeded to leave positive feedback for the seller, he has not left any feedback for me as far as I can tell.

Today I get an e-mail from the seller saying that he wants around £20 extra for the shipping costs, and that if I don't pay up straight away he is going to "take further action".

I've never come across anything like this, and I don't know what to do?

hi,

personally, i wouldn,t worry about it - i mean, its not like he,s going to come to your house and cause trouble is it?. all i,d do is, make sure there,s no money in your paypal account, so paypal themselves cant take any out as a possible re-fund? - you never know, he might cause trouble that way. but otherwise, ignore his emails, and if the mini disc player works ok, forget him.

dont be intimidated by email bullying.

That is his own stupid fault for not charging enough for shipping. I have short changed myself a number of times by misquoting a shipping cost. I just chalk it up to experience. You should be able to see the difference between the postage cost on the box and what you paid. Is it really £20 difference?

My advise is to do the right thing. Did you agreed to pay for actual shipping cost? If yes, did the seller under charge you from what you can see as the postage cost or find out what the UPS / DHL etc... charges should be and do what you think is right. You may say the seller has to pay for his mistake but if the situation was the other way around, he over quoted you, do you expect a refund? The final decision is yours to make.

It depends on the sort of person you are I think, you could just ignore emails from him and not pay, you have the item, whats he going to do, its his mistyake he should have had it weighed correctly? I dont think there is any recourse through ebay.

Alternatively you could offer to pay half the costs as a compromise, stating that he should have checked before sending the item, you could also.

You could if you wanted to take the item to a P.O and ask them to give you the price to see i f he is telling you the truth.

What did the postage say on the box when you recieved it? was it the amount he qouted you?

He just think that he's in good position, as you already left positive feedback. If he miscalulated on shipping it's his fault, it happens to everone once in a while. I had some trouble as a seller with a guy (I think he'sd even a TC member) from England, He bought some Hilux stuff of me, He said that he would transfer the money into my account, which I said yes to if he pays for the fees, I receive the money but actually about 30 Eur less, then the actual price + postage, I send him a second Email about the fact that I'm down 30 Eur on the total, he then states, that he will transfer the rest of the funds, I say ok, that fine and to cut matters short , I'll already send out his parcel,

After a month still no money so , I send out an Email to him , whether

hed just forgotten to send the money, He then very "politly " wrote

that he will not send the rest of the money, and that I should pay for my bank fees, and basically get lost. Well that cured me of sending any stuff prematurley.......

I happen to have just had the opposite luck. Just purchased an item and had postage @ £2.00 and £1.00 paypal fee. Seller said to forget the paypal fee. Then parcel arrived today with postage costing just short of £7.00. Seller posted excellent feedback and no emails!!

Top seller!

I don't have the box any more, GF doesn't like it when I leave stuff on the dining table, so she throws it out straight away, so I can't check how much it was.

I don't feel like it's relevant how much it did cost, when you click "request total from seller", and the seller then sends you an invoice, I feel like he should've gotten the ammount right in the first place - that's why one requests a total, and that it's a done deal.

I've decided to take Madbad Jezza and Shodog's advice, and just ignore the guy and hope he goes away.

I think he's trying to intimidate me, that at first he sort of accepted the fact that he had made a mistake and lost some money on the shipping, but then when he got the positive feedback, he realized that he could potentially get some money from me, since he was in a position to leave feedback on me.

Even if he does leave me negative feedback it won't be the end of the world.

As Shodog said. It was up to him to sort out the shipping costs. If he's messed up it his own fault.

I've done this in the past, mis-quoted a shipping fee and had to pay the extra. My own fault.

Anyway, an extra £20 for a changer??!! Didn't think it would cost than that to send anyway?

Hotgolf, it's a minidisc changer so it's smaller and lighter than a cd changer would be.

Judging by comparing the weight of it to a 1 liter carton of milk, I would say that the the changer is about 2/3 the weight of the 1 liters of milk, so it's probably around 0.6-0.8 kilograms weight.

I would say the size is about 10cm X 10cm x 25cm.

As a comparison, someone from the UK here at the forums only charged about £5 to ship me a Subaru Brat body kit.
