I really wanted that kit and I placed a bid on it earlier in the auction! After I saw the auction today I just couldn't believe how much it was up to! I've got a very nice " SEALED " collection ( Falcon, Hornet, Blackfoot, Clod, and Pumpkin ) now and the Frog would have been a nice addition, but $1000+ is CRAZY!![:(] I'll have to pass.[V]

You guys think " SEALED " kits are really worth that much more than just unsealed NIB's?

All tell you guys what...no way in H E double hockey sticks, would I buy a sealed kit, regardless of the price! It would be way too easy to take a box, find the gadget that seals these boxes, and seal it up. Im sure there are ways to make it look like it is 20 something years old. Imagine buying something like that, and leaving it on your shelf for 10 years, and finally, one day, you decide the time has arrived, and you open that box up..........only to find a couple oil filters and some mens dirty underwear!!! I have a small collection of Star Wars figures, and one day, I walked in to a comic book store and saw these ultra rare figures with exclusive paint jobs, and some with erroneous emblems and such painted on. These, the guy at the shop told me, were figures that were removed from the blister pack, touched up, and re-sealed, and you could never tell they were tampered with. Gave me a completely new realization when I saw guys advertising figures that were "mid-production errors"

I also wanted that Kit BUT.. 1000 usd are almost as much as to Pay for a SRB Ford Ranger NIB. To make Your pain smoother..have in mind that yesterday a Shrinked Hornet was sold for about 750usd..[;)]

Holy badword thats crazy[xx(]I just started collecting Tamiya cars just a few weeks ago. I have had my eyes glued to Ebay to see what stuff is selling for. I do remember seeing that Frog for sale and I thought it would be cool to have a NIB frog, since I did have one when I was younger. I am looking for NIB kits too but these "sealed" kits are for the serious collectors with deep pockets.

Good point about the old men's undies. That is something that I never thought about. One thing that you would be extremely difficult to replicate is the stickers that Tamiya sometimes put on the outside of the plastic. But as with everything, I am sure some might or would do such a thing if extra cash is involved.

Hey Gixer, kinda makes you think about what could be that Falcon box..... Doesn't it!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought I lost a pair of underwear last time I did a wash.

Just kidding guys!

Hey guys, relax! [:D] Did you check the bidders list? I have seen so many auctions with silly ending prices with single digit bidders, do you think the transaction will ever take place? I don't [;)]

Cheers

Motorsport - VERY FUNNY!![:D] Well at least I know where my sealed Falcon came from, and if that one day comes around in 10 years where I decide to break the seal on that kit and find some undies............ [:(!]I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE[:P] Thanks for talking me out of that Frog buddy!! My wife would have KILLED me.

As for the sealing topic here.. A local hobby shop near me has one of those sealing machines and you can tell the difference from a fraud new seal to a 20+ year old factory seal.. Once you look at enough Vintage Factory Tamiya seals you'll know a fraud when you see it.. The edges, markings, corner access, and like Motorsport said with the stickers you'll know.. I'm not saying that it can NOT be done, but once you've seen enough kits with 20 year old factory seals and the way they look you'll be able to spot a fraud. Kinda like a FBI detective spoting fraud money. Once you've examined the real money long enough you'll know when you spot a fraud.

Well, good point about the stickers and stuff.......question is, are you certain enough to put a grand on the line, from the othe side of the country? Feedback would be a must have if buying something like this from a seller. You would definately want to see lots of it.

Yep, if I was paying that much for a sealed kit I would want to see an x-ray, or perhaps have it weighed next to a kit with visible contents [:)] It's soooo easy to shinkwrap things it does make me wonder when I see them being sold.

I agree about the Star Wars thing as well, there are a ton of mint vinyl-caped Jawas and two stage lightsabre Luke and Darths around - whenever the value of something goes up so high it becomes more worthwhile to do high quality fakes.

Anyone got a link for this auction, all I can see is a NIB Frog that sold for $455 which seems more realistic.

The only reason that went so high is those two that had a bidding war. (or shilling war [;)] ). It seems that the $580 where Gixxer stopped at was about right for a NIB Frog.

Still awfully expensive IMO.

Thats what I thought!!

Funny thing is some long lost hobby shop somewhere probably has a factory sealed NIB Frog sitting on a shelf collecting dust and has a sale price of $99.95..hahaha[:D]

Question is: " Where is that hobbyshop? "[V]

Thanks for the link. Yep looks like there were two people who really wanted a sealed Frog and had more money than willpower [:)]

I wonder if the euphoria of 'auction winner' has faded into 'bidders remorse' yet [?][:D]

Could you imagine walking into a shop where they are clearing out old stock and finding a stack of 20 of the rarest/ most valuable Tamiya kits? And offering £500 to take them away and 'do them a favour'? [:P]

I actually know a person in Los Angeles who's sitting on a pile of NIB, sealed Tamiya RC kits. I met him on ebay and bought several kits from him including a case of 6 NIB sealed Sonic Fighter kits. Don't know what I'm gonna do with the Sonic kits (not popular kit), but eventually I'll sell them all off (sold 3 already this year).

Anyway, he showed me pictures of the inventory he still has now. He said they are safely stored at his relative's warehouse. Years ago, he used to own a large hobby shop in Northern Cal and still has a pile of Tamiya kits left over.

In the pictures, I saw the following kits plus other kits in cases: Bruiser, Blazing Blazer, Sand Scorcher, Rough Rider, blue and black Lamborghni's, Willy, Frog, Sand Rover, etc. We are talking about a whole case of each of the kits. That's like 4 to 6 kits per case carton, not to mention prestine, factory fresh like condition.

I begged him to sell some of the vintage kits to me. But he knows he's sitting on gold and told me to check back with him later. In fact, I think I'm gonna give him a call this weekend to bug him again. [:P]

Guys, call me crazy but I am the one that bought that Frog. Yep $1050.00 for that sucker! I must be honest, it became a bidding war just like someone mentioned. I kept telling myself, only a $100.00 more, only a $100.00 more and bam $1050.00! It was actually my last bid, I went to sleep and thought if someone goes over that they can have it, they want it more than me. So will I ever get my money back out of it? I don't know, but right now it doesn't matter, I'm happy.

Well james then it's all good. You are the *only* person who has to like your deal. A NIB Frog would make me fairly giddy as well. I am jealous of your new kit, not of the price though [;)]!

Nice score!
