Paying outside of the U.S. problems

Hello, I live in the US and won an item on ebay from Australia. The guys auction page was set up for a wire transfer but also noted he accepts paypal. I contacted him for his paypal info and a total. He sent it right to me with no problems. My problem is selecting a currency when logged on to my paying screen. Paypal does not have Australian Dollars as a currency. I have heard U.S. dollars are accepted in other countries but don't know. Any suggestions? My bank is advising against a transfer.

ask him whether he accpets a paypal payment in USD, they normally do

Thats what I am working on now. That would be great. I am not playing with this guy and I don't believe he is either. I should've been a bit informed before I bid, so I'm the idiot here. I have sold to the U.K. before and had zero problems so I assumed it would be the same. But I would like to get this figured out because I want the item.

I am a little weary about this auction. I just sent an email to him (forwarding from a previous email he sent) and it returned as a wrong address. I guess it could be a mistake or internet problem, but who knows.

Just convert USD /AUD using the current cash exchange rate, I can't see why they'd have a problem with that as Paypal will convert it back if they want it in AUD. I did this the other day with someone who gave me the total price in EURO even though the auction was in £, so out of laziness I just converted it so I could use the checkout, rather than sending a manual Paypal []
