Just went to my LHS as they got the carson shocks in for me... turns out they dont fit my car, the shocks are too long for it. They were so nice aswell and a lot cheaper than the £60 tamiya ones. Im going to search for some more like these - [8D]

http://www.rccarsandtrucks.co.uk/551_1_1035263.html

when it says the size is 50mm is that the measure of the entire shock, or just the 'inside' bit where the spring is held. [8)]

my entire shock (TT01) from top to bottom measures 60mm, and the 'spring part' measures 30mm. [?]

Are there any other makes, such as yokomo etc which sell shocks like the ones pictured abvove and that will fit my TT01 chassis? [:)]

Thx,

Chris

I just bought some of the Tamiya TRF Fluorine Coated shocks from a guy in HK - Four shocks incl. springs for £26 + £6 shipping. Check the 'bay.

These are to go on my TT-01 350Z which should be here next week - Yippee...! [:P]

Roop - Hrm, I hope they fit now [?]

Do you know if he sells the blue ones aswell as the red ones, coz my cars got blue n yellow n it would be good if the dampers could match. If not, at £26 i'll get the red ones !!

emailed him a while ago, said he's sold out of blue but he sells silver aswell as red. hmmm, now im stuck, silver, red, silver, red lol

Chris, there's an option you could try before binning them. I got "70mm" Carson shocks for the Baja Champ, but they were 85mm long. Seems that Carson's steel rule's aren't as accurate as they could be [:P]) So I then got some others which were shorter and changed the bottom bits for the Tamiya ones, which increased them to the perfect length for the Champ.

I've just got a Twin Detonator, which takes the same size shocks as the Champ. As an experiment, I popped the TD springs onto the overlength Carson shocks, and found that this shortened them to the correct length. As the Carsons are threaded, I've been able to preload the stock springs as they are a bit shorter. The only downside is that there will be slightly less travel on the suspension than the stock friction dampers, but it's only a couple of mm so shouldn't really make a difference to the handling.

Try fitting the springs from the Tamiya onto the Carsons and see if it makes a difference, it might shorten them sufficiently.

Another thing I do is to pack the bolts on the top damper mountings with a bit of electrical tape; it stops them from rattling. Some of the Carson shocks do come with rubber bushes for this purpose, but not all of them.....

See this topic for my 70mm shock moanings; I will be updating it soon with the above info!

Thanks for the info [;)] but I probably wont bother as I done a 'try before you buy' in my LHS and so when I saw they wouldn't fit, they said not to worry and theyl just keep them as stock for the shop. So i havent wasted any money [:D] going to see if my LHS dealer can get the tamiya super low frictions off ebay for me as Im not quite old enough yet to buy over the net. lol

Thanks again,

Chris.
