Saw some pretty nice vehicles that would make wonderful XC chassis vehicles. I wouldn't mind seeing the Tourag or an X-5. Hey by the way its been twenty years since Tamiya's done a Paris Dakar vehicle so why not?[?]

I watch it every year. I think it's one of the most underrated motorsport events on the calander.

An updated Mitsubishi Evo or indeed an Raid X5 would look very nice.

I saw it and agree with all of your sentiments... definately one of the greatest races on the calender and in the UK it gets **** coverage (although seeing as this is the first year that it has been on terestial TV maybe that is getting better). As for their suitablility for Tamiya, they surely are the perfect car for them to make into a model. Xc chassis or Hummer chassis would work as a base (although it would be lovely to see something new!) and the bodies are far more interesting than another scooby. And surely there would be scope for seriously tuning one too. Tamiya "invented" the touring car culture in RC.... maybe they can do the same with Paris-Dakkar... a rerelease of the 959 in 1/10th wouldnt be a bad start!

Wasn't the ill fated Renault Megane Schlesser buggy based on a Dakar winner?

In that event I could see a whole range of new exciting models available to make - it would be great. I can only assume though that like the Schlesser buggy it must be a nightmare of licensing issues...

I managed to castch some of the coverage on eurosport-really is a awesome event. Would love to see Tamiya bring out a new XC with a Toureg, Pajero and McRae's Nissan Pickup!! [8D]

Keep on dreaming....[|)][|)][|)]

I agree its got to be one of the most underrated races in the world. Fantastic Pictures!!! I agree, Colin McCree's (I hope that spelled that right) pickup would be neat to see in an XC chassis. If they where feeling really generous, they would supply the extra spare BF Goodrich tires as well.[:o)][:D] I wouldn't even mind seeing the US entry. Theres a ton of good topics that they could use http://www.xtdev.com/auto/gallery/news/030...x_Chevrolet.jpg

Yes it was, but this year it has morphed into a Ford Focus. Isn't it amazing how important sponsorship is.

Dont think so, my first own real car was a Megane Coupe which I liked alot, but I have to say, this "thing" was a ugly as badword, no comparison to a Touareg or X5.

I believe that Robbe had one out for a very short while around 5/6 years ago, a Discovery- though the body was lexan[V]

Also they had a 6x6 'rosenbauer' dakar truck, and a airport fire truck too.....[8D]

Wouldn't mind swapping my Mitsubishi L200 for one of the Paris-Dakar ones.....Strakar I think they're called.....From memory they all finished quite high up the pecking order, not bad for a pickup truck!

The best truck by far in the Dakar was without a doubt the Protruck. If i remember right our American friends entered it a few years ago, and is still being entered each year. Great looking, georgeous sound, rear wheel drive and looked the biz. I watched all of this years Dakar, and it was shown twice i think!

they could not film the guys, they keep getting stuck in the sand [:P]

no, serieus, you can really see the baja experince on that rig,

just outclassed by the mitsubishi on factory suport. looks like the far eastern frinds brought a whole factory with em! (in comperison to some teams).

I think the x5 team also deserves great respect (but, i surpose all contenders/survivers of this monster rally do) , with minimal factory suport (bmw is not what u call, showing mutch intrest in there cars in the dakar). And, doing so well!

But, i am a real "lover" for the trucks going with the dakar

Try dig out a big b**** like that out of the sand (i did...), 1 time.. okay.. If you have a fluid drain stand by... but X times in a rally... Oef! [B)]

The hero's here are the motorbike riders, did you see that auzzy guy just FLY???? and ofcourse that italian guy, with that 125cc moped... thats what i call brave, go do a rally like this on a dirt bike with a big fuel tank [^]

A well, at the moment i am dreaming away.... what if i had... if i could.... <snap> let see if i can get my boss so mad to give me one of his trucks to rage across the desert [}:)]

Proberly not, but.. hey, u always have to keep dreaming! lol
