I can't prove this but I would like others to look into these 2 IDs vincent23230 and joanna246golf. The reason why I ask this is we all take a chance with e-bay and we all like to try and save a bit of money so in the last 2 weeks I bought some batteries 2000 sanyo NiCAD race. I paid £12.50 for 2 brand new ones in packet (Bargain) So I looked again at this seller to see if he had any more, which he does. I bid on another lot, I was winning up to a max of £12.60 (as I hadn't tested the others) The next time I looked I had lost out on the bid to joanna246golf for £13. But then I got an e-mail from the seller vincent23230 saying that the buyer had pulled out and if I bid above them I could have them (auction had finished). So far everything seems normal until you check his other items for sale and you relise that this joanna has put in bids on other items already with bids and an obvious high bid in place. If she is not willing to pay £13 for the batteries why is she now bidding up to £18 on other identical ones. What do you guys think? It seems to me as though he was loosing money on the ones he had sold and is either getting a friend or using another ID to bump up the price. The locations for these 2 IDs are very close together. Do you think I should report them to e-bay?

Sorry its so long winded.

i would offer him the amount that you bid and no more,take it or leave it,if he doesnt take it then he has lost out,you dont have to offer a better amount than the non payer,and why should you?,they arent paying are they so their last bids dont count...whick leaves you as the highest bidder,hes asking you to pay more than the theoretical highest bid lol

As for shill bidding, it happens all the time. The key is figuring out how much your willing to pay and stay to it. There are plenty of other sellers of batteries on ebay

Wahey, rant time

Half the reason this kinda thing happens, is eBay's 'proxy bidding' service.

You state the maximum you are willing to pay, ebay incrementally ups your bid, to your maximum.

All very well, 'fire and forget' [;)]

Trouble is, sellers know this too, so your bid of £12 could well be a maximum bid of £25 - and they want as much as possible for their product, so they get a mate to bid up the item, in order to bump up your proxy bid.

Looking at Joanna, it does seem to be a seperate person, with their own ebay existence, because they do bid on other auctions;

http://cgi6.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...1&all=1&rows=25

But a lot goes on Vincents stuff [xx(]

I blame eBay for proxy bidding - if you're prepared to pay £100 for something, why should a seller only get £5 because noone else bid???[:(!]

And relax

OK Hands up which one of the readers on this site is vincent or joanna?

Why do I ask? Well I have been watching some of his items and since posting this thread 2 of joanna's bids have been retracted from 2 different auctions! If this isn't fishy then what is?

Blakeyx - be very careful about accusing people on this site. Doing so without hard facts (not just suspicions/ coincidences etc) is in breach of our rules.

This one really is a matter for ebay. I suggest you email them all the details and let them take action if they feel the need to. It can never be resolved here. You are welcome of course to.

If they make a ruling on it and suspend users etc and they publish something in the public domain, like their forums or feedback etc then you are of course welcome to start a new thread linking to it.
