I'm thinking about replacing the motors in the Baja Champ and Mad Bulls with LRP Buggy Specials, as they are fairly cheap. Is 21000rpm a lot better than the speed of the standard Mabuchi 540 supplied with the Tamiya kits?

I dont think though that any of those are the Mabuchis are sold with a Tamiya, as they much have different nominal voltages, but the other numbers are pretty similar as according to Tamiya a stock RS540 is something like 15000RPM and 200Ncm torque at 7.2, so don't worry, your conclusions are still valid.

I would guess that if anything the motor supplied in the kit is probably the cheapest one to mass produce. I'll take a look later to see if I can confirm the exact model, but I think I'll order one of these buggy specials and see how it fares.

There's also the option of some budget modifieds like the Team Orion Havoc, but I think I'll stick with the LRP as it's specifically made as a drop-in replacement for kits without having to change the gearing and/or ESC.

Watch this space, but any report I give of speed increase will have to be subjective, as I don't have a speed gun! Perhaps I can drive the Champ past one of the plethora of Gatsos which we now have and see if I can trigger it LOL....
