I can confirm this is a great site !!

Heaps of usefull info on the modern micro racing fad... while not strictly Tamiya orientated - it has another great feature - it is based in AUSTRALIA !!

I intend to do a bit of posting on the Tamiya Tamtechs - the cars that started the micro revolution many years ago !

There are not alot of us on the Web !!

Cheers

Am currently on project trying to figure out how the frequency is governed... then try to do something to change it.

Research plan is:-

1) buy lots of BCGs

2) inspect them closely to find out PCB differences

3) run them back-to-back to test for interference

4) change and/or adjust PCB components to effect freq change.

Progress Report:-

*still* stuck at #1... icon_smile_wink.gif

but don't they have very delayed steering though?

Delayed? How...?

Steering is via using 2 electromagnets (full left / full right) that work like a solenoid, with a centering spring. These work pretty quickly too... unlike mechanical servos which still need ~0.4-0.2secs to turn 60 degs.

I haven't ever tried one, is it something i should stay away from, sounds like your all addicted allready!icon_smile_tongue.gif

Might redirect some of my funds away from tamiyaicon_smile_wink.gif

Haha, suggest DON'T GO NEAR THEM unless you can risk addiction.

But at least they're cheap (relatively).... and finding stock locally in Oz is currently half the challenge. I'm going around everywhere just searching for the little black boxes - why do toy stores all have SO MANY KIDDIES!!?

One of my friends had one and said the steering only works when you are moving, if you try and turn then move it's slightly delayed? maybe his isn't working properly?

And Thanks for the warning, i will try and avoid them, although that won't be too hard, our local model shops don't stock anything that's sought after. Saying that though, there everwhere on ebay D'oh !

So many kiddies? does that include us? hee hee! I'm a 30 year old kiddy and will still be one for years to come. Toy's are what lifes about, especially one's you use with your GirlFriend , oops sorry!

Yeah, they're just little electromagnetic coils (L/R) attracting a permanent magnet (steering bar) so there's not much torque there at all. With the car stationary on its kit sticky tyres, it has as much hope of turning its wheels as a 4WS Clod with a std 40oz servo.

But lift it off the ground and steering works fine. Works well on the move in any case, so no cause for concern.

Control is non-proportional, so its just like playing Nintendo. Full lock & full speed or nothing... so driving techniques is a little different. Still top fun though!!

Playing with gf is what *makes* them troublesome kiddies, y'know.. icon_smile_wink.gif Think I'll stick to plastic and teddybears.

Maybe need to do your baseball bat training? icon_smile_big.gif LOL

Nah, definitely can't use bats on teddybears - the bear presevation society wouldn't like that!! icon_smile_dead.gif Waaay outnumbered by bears around here, nearly as many as RC cars.

We've got the 18" Supertoy Teddy from AI so some even talk - Supe is spooky enough as is even before he starts yapping away.
