UK Buyers, have you been hit with VAT and duty when buying from Stella, or do they employ VAT friendly labeling[]?

I've recently bought a twin detonator from SM, I have to say the communication was first rate, a great price and they included a ball race kit for free[].

Delivery was in an amazingly quick (3-5 days) and no VAT or import duty to pay as they itemised it as a gift. I don't know if they do this as a matter of course but I asked them to do it and they duly obliged.

Highly recommended to anyone thinking of buying a kit or spares etc..[]

VAT/Tax free is down to luck. If customs stop your parcel and inspect it, VAT and Import Duty will be charged - if you do a search on the forums for "Import Duty" it should give you some tips..

I know some companies such a eTamiya mark their orders as gift to hopefully avoid VAT and Import Duty.

Please note on Stellamodels website they also state:

'We can accomodate your requirements in respect to Customs duties/taxes and invoicing. Please let us know if you require the parcel to be undervalued or packaged in a particular way. The Customs duties/taxes incurred are the responsibility of the buyer to settle.'

So you can request it to be undervalued and marked as a gift.

Obviously this won't guarantee that you won't get charged.

I don't think it matters what type of mail service you use, all goes through customs.

I totally agree. Ordered a VW Race Touareg, a TZ Motor, Tamiya 3600 Battery and Futaba ESC.

All arrived safely and very quickly. Service was excellent.

Can't agree more on the great service that Stella gives. I recently got the new SprayWorks kit from them off ebay and it was with me within the week. To top it off, the item was marked as a gift and I incured no extra charges for it coming into the uK.

I've generally found all the far east suppliers are good ie stellamodels, walawala, hongkong-cowboy and rainbowten to name but a few. All have super quick delivery, well packaged and so far (touch wood[]) have never been hit by the dreaded uK import tax[]
