I had a bit of a nosey on the main site and it appears no one has one of these nitro trucks. I'm kinda interested in buying one and basically I just would like to know what someone out there thinks of it - y'know is it really worth NZ$1000 & are they sturdy and easy to maintain etc? I've only ever driven an HPI Savage but I think the Mega Force looks cooler so I'd rather get one of those.

Cheers,

Mike [8D]

The mega force can't compare to the savage with its small engine (it's more like the "Bigger" HPI nitro MT2). A mad force (with rigid axles), or a giga force (the new one with 2 engines) are probably more interesting: totaly insane power / bulletproof chassis, lots of parts shared with the MP chassis.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm not wanting to spend a lot of cash on a nitro truck. I basically want something that I know of brandwise, and is good for a nitro beginner. Plus, I work at a golf course and the MF sounds ideal for bashing around the fairways since I'm not a serious racer or hop-up freak!

I've read a bit about the Mega Force, but again I'd rather go with a simpler, more newbie design. Though I'm aware that the 'Force is a more basic chassis with the solid axels, the indepenent suspension of the Mega looks like it'll cope better.

In that case you are talking about the mad force. It is one of my favourite car: simple design easy maintenance. There are a few issues however:

- The center dog bone will pop up on early version, and the mad arnour prop shaft upgrade is a must have (8.99).

- The diff will get stripped if the shims are not installed "by the book".

- The diffs use 2 bevel gears instead of 4 like on high end MP7s. I would highly recommend to upgrade this (<$10).

- The steering links are slopy, although the aluminium upgrade is not necessary, using longer screws+nuts makes the whole a lot more stiff.

- Changing the engine for a "non-kyosho" one requires expensive hop-ups ($40).

- Front one way requires wd40 all the time.

On the plus side:

- Going cheap on ebay

- use MP 7 gears (easy to source)

- super easy maintenance

- Crash proof (the suspension links will absord an extreemly heavy front impact).

- Very nice articulation in ugly offroad conditions.

Cheers for the info, Raemin [;)] I've been doing a bit of reading about the Mad Force & it seems the best way to go. madforce.net is full of info like what you just said. What's the usual ebay price? What I've been quoted here in NZ just for a MF kit is too expensive. Tower no longer stock them so I'm not left with any other "cheap" options on picking one of these up & apparently the RTR version is more cheaply made than the kit version [xx(]

The RTRs mad force are highly recomended: they do have plenty of upgrade / enhancement compared to the earlier mad force and the kyosho GX21 engine (the blue one) is a great improvement compared to the original orange GS21. An other important point is that on the RTR version, the diffs are properly adjusted and will probably be less damaged. The new rims of the RTRs are really nice also. A few mad force are being sold with the OS upgrade wich is a huge enhancement, this option is highly recomended as it already include all the hop-ups required to fit non kyosho motors. The Mad Armour is not bad if you love the Hummer style, it already comes with the upgraded swing shaft (like the RTR). The RCX editions are too expensive. All the kits that do come with expensive aluminium extras are a waste of money: this truck is already extreemly fast (no point in making it faster), and it is meant to be used as a tough basher, not an fragile show piece.

I've bought a bare chassis (trashed body, no engine, cheap radio) for $150 on ebay, added a 2.4hp delta engine (same as HPIs ones) plus $50 of hop-ups to fit the non kyosho motor, plus new diffs ($45 on ebay), plus new servos, plus new body, complete screw set ($7), etc... All in all $330 to get a "REALLY MAD" mad force in excellent conditions. If I were to do it again, I would stick to the original 1.7hp kyosho engine which is very cheap on ebay and requires no hop-ups. This would have saved me approx $80 to the final bill.

Do not be afraid in stripping down the mad force: a complete dis-assembly / assembly is less than one hour and parts are easy to source : they are common to the MP 7.5 sport/RTR, and all the users who want to upgrade the MP swing shafts, diffs, etc are throwing away parts on ebay.

My Recomendation : $350 for a Mad force in excellent condition or $150-$200 for a really used one that will require approx $100 of spare parts (piston/sleeve + diff + body + shafts).

Hiya Mike, check out Trade-me. There's 3 on there now, starting bids as follows one @ $450.00, one @ $500.00, and one @ $590. Go for the Mad Force dude, I've got one and it's the Dog's B******s. Ideal for that Golf Course, and whatever else you throw at it. Really tough truck, with the solid axles. No fears of snapping one of the poxy little drive shafts, like all the other Nitro Monsters have.

Once you get over the run in process, (which takes time if you do it wrong.[:(] DOH!!)it hauls. 3-speed trans on the Mad,46mph top speed right outta the box.[}:)] 1-speed trans on the Mega, top speed 18mph.[:(]

So far I've had mine at the Wiamak river, (on the dry bit lol) out on the road outside home, over the road and into the neighbours yard, climbing over my rock garden. Going to the local skate park soon, just to stir. Then I'm going to the local BMX track for some air-time.

Like raemin said, lots of up-grades. Can add another set of shocks if you want, I will be doing that soon.

Anyway that's just my opinion. If I was you I'd go for the RTR, just for the ease of not having to build it. It's a pretty basic set-up anyway, so if you had to strip it down it'll be simple. I had a look at the Traxxas Revo, the only thing I liked about that truck was the body shell.

Hi,

Anyone still running a Kyosho Mega Force?  I just pick one up for restoration but as these are getting old and are fidelity nitro powered, I just wondered if there is still love for these and if any are still run for fun?

Also, anyone, know an easy/cheap replacement for the massive 6.8 OD x 3.8 W x 3.2 tyres (keen to keep the same monster look) ??????

Cheers,
