If you raced a PB Mini Mustang at the time - I dont think you would be making those comments about it supershot - they were a real dog - and I raced for the "team" back then as well !!

Even Willy will back me up on this one !

The wishbones were made of "cheese" (really extremely flexible - and prone to shattering in cold weather !), the shocks were a total nightmare........the list af bad points is long .....[V]

The good thing was if you changed over most of the car to schumacher runner gear - and had some SRM suspension arms - it wasnt too bad - untiull you hit another car - adn the front wishbones snapped the chassis and fell out !! LOLOL [:(!]

They never really won anything that Major here in Australia - not to sure that they did that well overseas either.I am sure other racers like Stu can help on that note.

Cheers

I take it there was never any cold weather in australia? Always thought of aus as kinda warm[;)]

No offence Darryn1!

I never owned one of these cars but thought they were pretty cool!My references were Airborne magazine as well as local Hobby stores! It was always questions and answers over the phone at well respected Hobby stores!"What's your best car" kind of questions..the cat..mini mustang..rc10 ect!The same stores promoted the schumacher cat(1st model) as well as the rc10(obviously)when it reached this country!I remember seeing this car in MORE than a few race results-many first places!I don't know about reliability!!!!!

I also had a friend,a die hard Kyosho guy,who hated Tamiya but liked this car!

Posted

No offence at all mate - shops will tell you what is best because they need to get rid of it !! [;)]

They won a few races in Australia - nothing really major at all - as the Cats and the Mids were killing them at the time.

They were similar to tamiya in a few things - just worse quality.[B)][B)]

The results you will notice are mainly from club events and some more state title like events - we had a pretty good team of drivers - however in reality the cars just could not cut it with the CAT or the MID or the DOG !

I have a NIB 2 speed - with optional alloy front shocks etc .... looking at the kit brings back some cool memories of what we used to do to try and get them to work !! [:D][:D]

Darryn,

I see you have edited my posts. I don't really bother you edited the post I mentioned swearing was filtered, as I gave a little too much examples... [:I] I re-edited myself with a other use of words to express my thoughts... [:D]

But the post on matsu***a was ment seriously and non-offensive in any way. I really thought I said matsuf***a (If I may use that word again...) I am sorry if I was not allowed to mentioned that but it seemed relevant to me at the time. They were both '4-letter-words' and I thought the 'F' one fitted in place and never thought about the 'S' one. I hope I didn't violate any rules, but I do not really think that correction was necesarry. I hope you understand. [:)]

Sjoerd,

There were plenty of examples of what was accepted etc etc. We did not need more obvious ones as demonstrations.

It is up to myself and other moderator's/administrators as what to edit in terms of language - this is one of my responsabilities as a moderator. If it wasnt me - someone else would have done.

It is not for you to question me about deleting profanity.

The "F" word is most obviously used by many people - but really - we dont need examples - it was fun while it lasted ![:D]

Cheers - I hope you are not offended by this.[^]

I thought I'd mention another company's car line.[:P] It is Leisure Electronics, of Irvine California USA. Their line of 1:12 kits, RTRs, rolling chassis kits (all in variouse stages of completion and options) were all named "NAKED TRUTH". [V][V][V] Their "ROAR" legal cars supposedly dominated 1:12 scale racing in 1978, in USA. The company advertised it to be the 1st car to beat the 2 min. record on the Thorpe Road Course....whatever that was? [?][?][?]It is rumored some NOS new ones will be on eBaY for sale and in trade room soon![:D][:D]

Re-El (Regiana Elettronica, Italian company that made some quite nice but technically inferior models of mostly Italian supercars back in the early 70's)

Gama (German company that made a nice amphibious car among others)

Schuco (German company that made an XR-311 copy and some other models)

Carlsson (Swedish company that made 1/8 and 1/12 pancars). I think Carlsson was first with quick-change wheels. Fell off all the time though.

Polistil (Italian company that made some simple "small scale" RC cars, but better known for their slotcars and diecasts.)

Corgi Toys made a few RC-cars too. A Porsche 917 and a "The Saint" Jaguar XJS among others.

Revell had a line of RC-cars in the late 70's / early 80's, but probably didn't manufacture them themselves. Or did they?

Monogram (the plastic model company) sold a few versions of an extremely ugly buggy made by Yonizawa. Think they were inspired by The Grasshopper, but not really copies.

PB actually did quite well in the UK with their kits, well they are a British company..

But like Darryn said they were really no match for the CATs and Mids of the time, even my Hirobo Rock n City ( when you threw away the rear belt and turned the motor round to accept gear drive) was a match for the original Mini Mustang (Loosely based on the 1/8 th scale buggy they had at the time called the Mustang. But they did also release a buggy called the Maxima, basically an evolution of the Mini Mustang, and almost became a good car......

It really is a shame that we don't have the same choice in race cirlces anymore, but there are lots of ready to runs to get the kids into our hobby I guess.

And as for me, the first ever r/c car I had was made by Matchbox, can't believe no one has mentioned them. I think it was a Porsche 928 if memory serves me well.

Guys,

Have to have my say on the PB Mini Mustang debate! over here in the Uk when they first cae out they were far better than the original CAT and indeed it was not untill Schuacher released the iproved XL version of the CAT that things started to go their way, I would rather have raced a Mustang any day against an original SWB cat, they were extreemely twictchy and did not like bumps at all and they did not even have a front diff, that car was not an imediate success. Sure the dampers on the Mustang are **** but personally I found the flexible wishbones practically unbreakable and not a proble..but then I was racing at club level, not at Darryns level.. mind you the tracks in the Uk were probably very different to Australian ones so perhaps the Mustang was more adapted to these... After the mMaxima PB made the ACE which really was **** but interesting, I have one in my showroom..

Anyone got more info on SG? I have a coyote but would like more info on their other IC cars, I have seen very little of them!!

Actually the Mini-Mustang did have some immediate racing success in Australia with Chris or Andrew? Reade placing the car 2nd in the 4wd Open class in the 1987 Australian off-road championships.

But the success was shortlived and the Cat continued to dominate racing in Australia until 89 when both the Mid-Optima and Yokomo Yz870c Dogfighter became the cars to have.

I'm sorry folks but the sensorship of the name Matsu****a is completely uneccessary.

I've been familiar with this name for many years and only laughed the first time. MATSU****A is actually the name of a person Mr Matsuhita who also happens to be one of the richest men in the world and very worthy of my respect.

Are the members of tamiya club so fragile in the mind that the mention of a ****su dog would be offensive? I don't think so. And I'd be really upset if somebody censored my name because it implies something slightly rude in anoher language.

No offence meant to any body but that was one step to far for me.

Oh yes and i don't think anybody mentioned TYCO [:D]

Late editid="red">

Ah I assume its automated censorship then! still crazy.
