Hi all,

I am considering buying a Bit Char-G cos I hear they are way cool. You don't need to explain that here... [;)] LOL

But I want to make sure my BCG has a good motor in it so it will go pretty fast. I hear some of them come with tuned motor/parts. But I don't know what cars have what motor and so on.

As far as I know, there are:

  • 1.0 - the standard motor, which is heck slow
  • 2.6 - a resonably fast motor, which might do
  • 3.0 - a monstorously powerfull motor which will make it uncontrolable
  • 3.8 - heard very little about this. I bet it will fly...

I hope you have any tips regarding these little creatures and their motors. I am a little confused which cars have which motors. I also heared of Mario and Yoshi go-kart vehilcles, wouldn't those be cool? [:o]

I didn't see any forum like this anywhere so I thought I might want to get the ball rolling here (yes, I used the search too [:D] ). Any help will be appreciated. Thanx.

Hi Sjoerd!

PINK 1.0 - the standard motor, which is heck slow; yeah you're right. But if you're racing on a tight track, slow is good too. Remember BCGs only have full-speed-or-nothing, unless you've got a Booster car.

There is also option GREEN 1.6, good for medium tracks.

The YELLOW 2.2 is a good motor too, it comes std in some cars like the first four G01-G04. It also comes in the G24 Nissan 350Z. This is a pretty good motor if you're only hacking around, its quite impressive on your average dining or pool table.

ORANGE 2.6 - a resonably fast motor, which might do:- Although it sounds like it revs higher than the 2.2, it doesn't actually seem to *go* much faster than the Yellow. Might have less torque? (B2.6 is also the fastest offical Tomy Bit CharG motor sold.)

RED 3.0 - a monstorously powerfull motor which will make it uncontrolable:- Supposedly has good top end, but lousy torque. It will take forever to wind out, perhaps the 12:1 gearset might help but then topspeed is probably only about the same as a b2.2 with the 9:1. The Tomy b3.0 (aka Lucifer Rotor) is not packaged for the Bit CharG, its for the Bit Racer cars. I bought one a few wks back, but still haven't opened it - no where to use the speed.

3.8 etc:- these are all Third Party inventions, not from Tomy. I don't know how much better these are, there are tons of other motors that might fit (check the vibrator motors in your pager).

There's probably 2 good reasons why there's not much BCG stuff here...

1) its pretty taxing on Chris' bandwidth, and

2) there's another fantastic mob at www.AusMicro.com !! [:D]

There's already a few usual faces at AusMicro, Cya over there!

Willy you evolved from peaking into drills to peaking into pagers? [:D][:D] Do half of the devices in your house still work?[:D]

I have 5 of these little terrors that I run - and 4 that will stay in the box.

I can honestly say that anything more than the 2.6 is TOTAL overkill !!

I have one with a 3.6v conversion and it just wont keep the front wheels down....there are alot of little tricks to be done with these cars - however be warned - while they are addictive in their own right - please be aware that they do have limited appeal as they do not have proportional control - it is "on or off" on the steering and the throttle !![V][}:)]

There are alot of sites around - as Willy has mentioned - ausmicro is a good place to start - and has an excellent links section.

Cheers

Ok, guys I'll check it out. I think I'll go for a 2.2 (or maybe a 2.6) motor then.

Now I just got to pick a model... [;)] Decisions decisions... [:)]

I saw them for sale at www.lik-sang.com, is $30 a fair price? And if only the first 4 came wiht a better motor, then who is going to take one with a slower motor for the same price? [:o]

Honestly I was dissapointed with my Bit char G. the radio range is terrible. I was more happy with the cheap 12.99 clone I bought at the airport.

The range on all of mine were bad until i removed the little capacitor type thingy from the transmitter(sorry for technical term) an put a longer aerial on the car it now has a rang of about 20foot which is more than enough for something that size.

Rumour goes Tomy's first releases (1st 4) with the 2.2 was waaay too fast for the average new owner (think Japanese, houses not very big), so the later cars only had 1.0 motors. It does make sense as the 2.2 is imho too fast to have much control on a dining table even with a bit of experience (lightning reflexes required).

Your options are (1) buy a 1st 4 kit, and then buy option bodyshell of your favourite model or (2) buy that model and a b2.2 or b2.6.

Funnily enough, both options lead to the same $$.

The originals themselves (Made in China by Tomy) are pretty much "toy" grade, so don't be expecting Tamiya quality. The OEMs (clones) are generally worse, not even par with the originals. I personally wouldn't buy clones at current prices, but might reconsider if they reach US$5 or less.

If you're willing to spend a bit of time fiddling, the Tomys can be made to run very nicely. Need to make sure everything runs true and smooth - just takes a little effort with a knifeblade or sandpaper, not rocketscience.

And yeah, they're addictive. [:D]

I don't think of them as little RC cars (not proportional), but instead they're a "true life" version of the old MicroMachinesV3 game.

Where else would you be driving little RC over your desktop, tapping little buttons with only on/off control?? [:I]
