Hey all...

A while ago I got some really nice HPI truck tyres, that someone had done an excellent job mounting foam tyres to. I thought this would be a really nice set of tyres for my Ultima, but here's where the trouble starts...

The rears fit fine, but the fronts are a different story. They are set up for twin bearings per wheel, but what size? I tried the standard Tamiya bearings (1150's I think), but they're too big. I had some Schumacher Fireblade front wheels with bearings, and these fit really nicely on the axle (4mm I think), but are far too small for the wheel itself. I tried some front wheel metal bushings from an Ultima RB, but while they seemed to fit in the wheel, the axle hole was too big (I think they're an imperial measurement...). I think the wheels might be set up for something like an RC10 or Losi bearing... can someone enlighten me as to what size these cars run on their front bearings??? I think what I need is something like a 940 (in Tamiya speak) / a 4 x 9 x 3mm (in Schumacher speak).

Little help... anyone??

I had this same problem a while back. I think you have a set of what HPI called their F5 wheels and they uses 3/16 x 3/8 x 1/8 inch bearings. See here: http://www.hpiracing.com/index2.htm.

I didn't find a solution back then as no metric sized bearings would fit. But thinking back, the easiest way would be to get a front axle from a RC10 or a Losi truck and fit it on the Ultima and then use the proper bearings.

Another way is that I had had some "universal" wheels from trinty that comes with plastic shims to fit the wheels to allow for both metric size and imperial size bearings. You might try looking for those to see if they works.

Cheers.

Think we've got the same white Trinity 2.2 wheels too... "Made in Taiwan" and suspect they predate Fatboy Kinwald's parents dating. [:)]

Holes in the wheels are 11mm bearings; adaptors fill this 11mm hole to suit "RC-10", "JRX2" and "Kyosho" bearings. The holes in the adaptors are approx 8mm, 10mm and 5/16" at rough guess.
