Let's have another go at the ID thing... this time, for some wheels I have lying about.

1. Yeah, I know they're Losi... but what for?

2. Trispoke little ******... from where?

wheels2.jpg

3. Hex mount, two piece, offset star pattern...?

wheels3.jpg

4. These are hard plastic, and look like wheels for mounting foams onto a Hornet or similar... maybe?

5. Trispoke with a small hex adapter...

If anyone needs these, I don't even know what they are, so they are available...

The twisted spoke are optima/ javelin rims. Others,, I have no idea. Im going to guess jrx, or junior 2 for the losi rims. traxxas 4tech for the first 3 spoke rim. The orange circle rims look like an aftermarket for old tamiya models. The last 3 spoke looks like a toy rc rim. O/K, so I had a few ideas.

Here are my shots :

1: Losi JRX2 front wheels - the kit came with a "pinky orange" colour - these were spares - and standard on the "Junior".

2: Holiday Buggy / Sand Rover Wheels

3: Kysoho Optima - although - they may be Javelin - and have had the centres painted black (as the Javelin wheels were chrome)...

4: Would agree with Jim here - very AJ's looking for the scorcher etc - also suitable for the later cars like the frog and Hornet etc etc

5: Possible wheels of a Quick drive type vehicle - as most of these cars have a very similar hex drive for the rear wheels. Jethoppers used these - along with "metro" rc cars as well.

My guesses.

Cheers

I agree totally with you on all but no 1. Maybe you didn't notice that the wheels don't have ribs for rubber tires? These front wheels were made by Losi for the Jr-X2 to mount foam tires! I don't remember the item number, but I know they were available in a few colours, the pictured being "natural" by Losi nomenclature.

For those of you who think it's strange that Losi cared to produce special wheels for running foam tires on buggies, it might be interesting to know that indoor carpet racing with 2WD and 4WD buggies was quite popular in the late eighties and early nineties before touring cars became popular.

You are correct Mirimar - I also notice now the lack of ribs as well.

In fact - an even more interesting tid bit of information , is that for a year or so - there were some tracks in the states that were made of such hard packed clay - that they ran foam tyres there !!

I remember my team boss at the time coming back from a trip and saying that it was unbeleivable to see buggies running foam tyres - the clay had what racers call a "blue groove" - the rubber and foam were being layed down on the surface by the cars - just like a real race track !!! He also commented that it was like circuit racing with jumps ! [:P] Would have loved to experienced that !

So much for off road !!

Knox in Melbourne had hard packed clay in the 80s, doused with diesel. Foam tyres came in handy as a tuning tool if say all one's other knobbly tyres gave too much grip. Certainly foams on the rear helped the Sabre (Boomerang) around some tighter corners.
