Ok i acquired this car from my lhs for an absolute bargain £5 but dont know what it is... I am sure it isnt Tamiya but there are similarities. Here is what i know..

width 190mm ish

wheelbase 230mm ish

chassis metal plate

front no suspension, metal steering knuckles

rear sprung plate

axle solid with a diff, remarkably similar to tamiya b2b etc

motor 380

wheels black 5 spokes & foam tyres 40mm wide rear and 30mm front

bumper looks original fits perfectly with neat cutouts

As you can see it comes supplied with a tamiya hump pack nicad, sanwa radio gear, the speed control has the same sort of cutout switch that the rough riders and sand scorchers had. It doesnt have a shell, but the shop owner said she thinks its from very early 80's and she thinks irvine imported it into the UK... it was fitted she says with a porsche 911 type shell. my thoughts were maybe Graupner or Robbe. The chassis doesnt have any name stamp on it

Even if i dont find out what it is dont really mind at £5 and in full working order who cares[:D]

heres a pic

I not entirely sure its a homemade... and there arent any bits like the renault 5 i can see similar, you never know tho

the plastic box the battery is sat in also has a box for receiver and a slot for a battery box(different shape to the box in photo)

Could it be homemade - based around something like the Tamiya renault 5?[?]

It's funny this car seems to have the same drive train as my Kyosho Martini Porsche:

Front axle is roughly the same,

Rear train is pretty similar except that it is reversed.

I am not 100% sure given the pics quality, but the design is sounds really familiar. I know these elements were also reused on alternate chassis such as the Graupner BB512. Any chance that the chassis plate is homemade?

hmmmm, similar but still at bit different, the diff is very similar though, it doesnt have that third gear as yours does in that photo.

This third gear is used for practice purpose, and as you can see in the pics I had it removed (thanks Theo), once this Thrird gear is removed the car goes the other way round (obviously), kyosho suggested to switch the battery plug, but an alternate solution is to flip the whole unit ...

On the third pic you may see the gear removed, I did not however remove the pin for I was afraid I may loose it. I do not believe they maintained this practice gear on the subsequent version of this chassis. This detail + the different speedo makes me believe this chassis could be based on the BB512 (as stated previously).

I've looked at the manuals I have and indeed Graupner kits 4970 4971 4972 4974 had the above mentioned setup (same as mine but no hole for the third gear).

However Chassis plate and speedo are different. I'll send you some pics of the manual should you be interested in a more in depth resto. Good news is that a german guys sells some porsche flat noose shells that perfectly fits theses cars... You may also use a tamiya re-released countach body for this car was also available with this body.

Hi,

a friend of mine had one.  Yes it had a Porker shell but it was something like a 917.  It was a hard plastic, like Sand Scorcher.  It was 1:10th scale and the Sanwa radio gear is the give-away about the name...  It was Sanwa badged and yes imported by Irvine.

I worked in a model shop in the late 70's and early 80's and this car was a cheap way into RC.  I am sure under the hump-back there is a battery tray that accepts 4x D cells??
