Yep - Know plenty about them - I raced for the PB racing team here in AUS for about 6 months before I gave up on it ! .......mostly with the mustang and then the maxima.

I have a full house NIB mustang - by this I mean the 2 speed Auto version - along with the development front alloy shocks.

Do you have any specific things you would like to know - because I tend to ramble on once I get started !! [;)]

I'm after some PB racing cars, I will hopfully be starting some serious searching soon, I plan to put an advert in the classified section of Radio Race Car magazine, to see if I can't dredge some up.

Does anyone know exactly how many 1:10 Electric Buggys PB did produced, I know they were pretty big on the 1:8 Gas car scene in the early-mid 1980's, and why have all the PB cars I've seen upto now allways been 4WD's? did they ever make a 2WD?

I only know about a handful of PB cars, the Mustang, Mini Mustang and the ACE, the Maxima is a new one on me? I would love to own any one of their cars, but I would prefer an ACE cos it looks kinda like a 4WD RC10 which I think is pretty kwl ;)

PB manufacturing (under the boss Keith Pleasted), were pretty much one of the "founding fathers" of 1/8th I.C racing in the UK. They have been around for a VERY long time !! (they are still around today - manufacturing 1/4 and 1/5th scale cars)......or they were last year anyway !

There WAS a 1/10th 2wd - it was a mini mustang without front driveshafts !! I kid you not !!

As far as 1/10th goes - there was the Mini Mustang, then the Maxima - and then the "ACE".....

The "Mini Mustang" was a pretty basic kit - and underwent a badword of a lot of "running" changes through its short life........It was not long before the factory brought out the Maxima - basically the Mustang with all the hop up parts available as standard.

The ace was another kettle of fish altogether - 0only ever saw a couple ! Maybe you could post the pic mate?? Would love to see that again......

If you need more details - let me know.

Cheers

All Darryn says is true... [:P]

Original "Mini Mustang" was PB's first electric buggy effort. It came in 3 levels:- 2WD, 4WD 1-speed and then 4WD 2-speed. There were upgrade packs if you began with the lesser versions.

PB also had some "hopup" parts, mine had the lightweight chassis (same FRP plate but with holes in it!!) option amongst others.

Later the MM was improved and released as the Maxima and Eco. Parts from these can be retrofitted to the MM. (The most worthwhile would be to get some hardier dogbones.)

"PB"?

= Pure Blended.

Before they went into car making, they supplied fuel to the model airplane crowd.

And why "MINI Mustang"?

Early 1980s, their main 1/8th GP car was the red PB Alpha. Some smart cookie decided to whack a Escort Mk1 shell on this with bigger rubber tyres (still the same wheels!), and tossed the diff & chain in favour of solid axle & o-ring pulleys. This I believe was the first "Mustang".

Later cars were 4WD, totally different to the onroad cars etc etc... eg Mustang XR3.

Here endth trivia lesson.

Another little history lesson as well:

Cecil Schumacher (SCUMACHER RACING CARS) and Keith Pleasted (PB RACING CARS), were actually designing a car together.........they both completely dissagreed on the design of the car - with both men going their own way !! This lead to the Mini Mustand - and the Schumacher CAT.........we all know who won the World titles now dont we!!

My Mini Mustang kit must have "all the friut" Willy - it has the lightweight chassis, 2speed, alloy front shocks, ballraced belt tensioner - all the cool stuff.........still - never made much difference - they were a bit of a pig to drive (maybe thats why I left and went to the "CAT" !! [;)]

here is the only picture of the PB ACE I have, its a ropey scan taken from an advert in a 1991 copy of Radio Race Car magazine.

£85 seems quite cheap for a competition buggy, but I guess it didn't sell too well, cos until I found this Advert I had never even heard of the car, still I think it looks pretty "ACE" like I said, it looks Just like a 4WD RC10 ;)

Not sure if the alloy shockers were a 'retail option', but I do also remember buying a PB-packaged "lightweight belt tensioner shaft" for the little bearing on the lever inside.

Not by choice but PB's QC seemed to have left that part out of my kit!! [|)]

PB's kit shockers worked ok, but rebuilding them is a real pain. Secured by 2 springpins at the bottom, pretty darned hard to extract again. Most owners I know visited Kyosho Option House before PB made any move.
