My old and favourite LHS just has a professionaly built one that was displayed for 1 year and placed in a box. He wants 130 euros for it. I do not know if this is a reasonable price for a Robbe kit, but the body is so nice that I will go for it anyway.

Anyone knows this kit?

I think for that kit the price is ok, the chassis is pretty simple but the body is very nice with even opening lights. Also a similar 959 existed which could be upgraded to a clearance adjustment and switchable 4wd from more RC channels, nice cars, but where pretty fragile and chassis didnt work so well.

Cheers

Theo is right. The Testarossa chassis is a quite inferior design, but the body is nice. I have 5 new but incomplete bodies of this type for sale if anyone should be interested.

The Robbe Porsche 959 was a model engineered with the same philosophy as the Robbe Testarossa, but with a better chassis design, and not many parts in common. I have one of these, and the variable ground clearance (controlled with two servos) and the ability to switch 4WD on and off (one servo) are nice features. The body is a 1/10 scale hardplastic body with good proportions and front-, turning-, backup- and rearlights, so I would say the body itself is almost as attractive as the Tamiya 959 body (the Testarossa body is similarly detailed, but with servo-operated pop up headlights like Theo states).

The chassis of the 959 is overly complex however, and any touring car chassis handles better and has a more efficient drivetrain.

As far as I know, the Robbe 959 is the only model to have both these features. It pops up on German eBay from time to time, and doesn't fetch especially high prices.

Though it may sound very cool to have RC-controlled ride height and 2WD/4WD, both features don't really have any real benefit. The difference between max and min ride height (it's stepless variable) is too small to make a difference on handling and "off-road" capability, and the model is hardly controllable in 2WD mode (because of the weight distribution and the poor suspension geometry).

Looking at the chassis, it's quite obvious that Robbe was very ambitious in making a technically interesting and complex model. Unfortunately, it's just as obvious that Robbe didn't have the necessary knowledge about and experience with high performance RC cars to make it a good model.
