Even before seeing the pic, it was quite obvious it could only be a Playtron buggy. I don't remember the name of this "cage-buggy" version, but the same model was sold with a Mercedes 500K (yes, really!) lexan body too, and dubbed just that.

Original rear tires were of a sandpaddle design not quite unlike the Sand Scorcher rear tires, but with fewer and higher paddles, more like the original Paddlatrac tires.

Your correct it was a Playtron its named a Viva Arizona (miramar send me your adresse & you get 1/2 a price)-now for the next ?? I found a post back some time ago somebody had one they were selling anyone know what it sold for or a fair Value-I got this one its Used but in good condition & New parts to build a few more less Motors-They are cool cars & look Neat-
