The Mardave Cobra is typical of the cars that Mardave produced as a whole, very cheap, and minimalist in design, yet they do the job for which they were made very well and quite competativly.

The Cobra is quite the most basic competition buggy you will ever see, it really has been stripped back to the absolote minimum and there isn't a lot to it, but it has all the basic ingredients that make up a 2WD competition buggy.

I have a Meteor myself but would very much like to own the other two Mardave 1:10th Buggies they made (the Apache and Cobra) however they did once make a prototype 4WD, but unfortunatly it did not go into production as they coulden't find a way to make it cheap enough which is a real shame as I would have really like to have seen a 4WD Mardave ;)

as for "Is There a Catch?" as far as I'm aware? Mardave don't make the Cobra anymore, the car has been out of production for about 18-24 months now so any new kits you might see in the shops are just old unsold stock, if Mardave have re-issued the Cobra in recent months then it's news to me??? [:0]

In fact as a company I'm not even sure that Mardave are still trading [8)] if so then it's only the V12's that have kept them ticking over, as a result Cobra spares will be very hard/nagh impossible to find now, that and if you decided to race a Cobra competativly at club level today you would probably get laughed off the circuit, even though a suitably hopped up Cobra would probaly kick the *** of any RC10 or Losi ;)

but if you do happen to know of a shop that is still selling these old stock kits off the shelf, please let me know where as i would like to buy one for prosterity reasons ;) wldnas@hotmail.com

UPDATE: Mr Biggus has just informed me that the Cobra has in fact been re-issued [:0] I eat my own words perhaps Mardave isn't as doomed as I thought [;)]

Mardave have just re introduced the Cobra.. it is available in shops now along with a good spares back up.

[:)]

The only real faults I suppose is it can be a little difficult to build but not too bad, and the other isnt really a fault but if you want to use anything more than kit motor then you need to ballrace it, but you can say the same about Tamiya models too.

Thanks to all on the responses to this - great writeup as usual wldnas [8D]. I did see the stuff on the Mardave website, and have noticed that at least one dealer (can't remember who) is doing the 'TQ' version at less than list (90-ish I think). Must admit I'm getting tempted...

Cheers. David
