Does anyone know anything about Nichimo, the corporation? I can't find anything about them on the internet. Are they still in the RC Business?[?]

Posted

Hi :)

Nichimo have not made any RC cars for many years, in fact they only seem to have made cars for a short time juring the mid-late eighties when like so many other Japanese model manufacturer they tried to cash in on the booming RC car craze but it didn't quite work out as lucrative as they expected and they discontinued making RC cars in about 1990-91? they did still make plastic model kits though, but as a Model company I'm not too sure if they are still trading today, if you cannot find anything on them then it's possible that they are no longer around.

Nichimo was one of many well known Japanese Model makers that stopped production of RC cars around this time, Hirobo, Marui are two that are still around today but have branched out into more profitable areas of model making IE Hirobo are world leaders in RC Helicopters and Tokyo Marui are big on Replica Firearms (Airsoft/BB guns)

Does anyone know of a version of the Exceed (I think it was actually called the Pegasus Exceed) that featured the motor mounted longitudinally, similar to the Cosmo Scooter but placed further back in the car.

I remember reading a review of one in a magazine many years back and I've noticed that none of the Exceeds owned by people here look like the one I mentioned.

Hi Bender :)

The "Pegasus" Exceed is just the Japanese name for the Exceed Pro 443 as the kit was known everywhere else?

the car you are refering to is the later 4WD car they made based on the Cosmo Shooter chassis design, it's called the Luminous and they are very rare cars indeed, like the Cosmo it has the motor mounted longitudinally ontop of the rear gearbox facing forwards, the car has while dish wheels and a rather repugnant futeristic streamlined body design that I think looks a bit like a big white slug :S

As I said these are very rare, as far as I know there arn't any TC members who have them in they collections or showrooms, yet there is a place on the internet that these cars seem to come up for same quite regularly and thats Yahoo Auctions Japan,

http://list5.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/20840...html?&f=&at=tru

They are always MIB versions and the prices are quite reasonble, the only problem is you can't buy stuff off there unless you live in japan mainly cos non of the sellers will ship outside their own contry, which is a crying shame cos the stuff on there is phenominal [xx(]

It's confusuing when they change the name of the car depending on the country it's sold to.

The magazine review I read (it was English or Australian) definately called it a Pegasus Exceed and I also saw one in a local shop in Australia many years ago, but the "Luminous" as you called it is certainly the buggy I'm talking about.

I couldn't find it from that link, but I did see another car which had a couple of different names - A Nikko Dandy Dash, in Australia they were called Nikko Brat, I saw one of these at the 89 World Champs in Sydney!

I did find another rare car - the Playtron Lynx, anyone here got one of those?

Bite my shiny metal *** Bender [;)] you obviously haven't been looking in my showroom then [:0] as I have most of the cars you have mentioned here....

I've got a Lynx http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=7084&id=37 and a Dandy Dash http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=8279&id=37 and if you care to peruse my showroom a little further you will see many other weird and wonderous cars from exotic brands such as, Hirobo, Mugen, Varicom, Robbe, AYK, Marui, Mardave, PB, Monogram, Tomy, Bandai, Aristocraft/Hi-tec, Ishipla, Futaba/Ripmax, Cox, Tenth Technology, Traxxas, Academy, Losi, Yung Ang, Blue Bird hobbies, Royal, SG/T.A.G and Nichimo.

I gotta bit of a taste for the rare and obscure stuff [;)]

[^] Nice collection, you've basically got EVERYTHING that I want! Actually I've owned quite a few of those cars.

I'm starting to think that I should've kept my old cars - especially the Mugen Mercury - I ended up throwing it out in the rubbish [:(][:(]

In answer to your question Mr Bond007 as regards to wetherNichimo were still going as a company....

Well Nichimo is dead and buried... But Nichimaco are still going strong [;)]

How do I know this? well at a model show this weekend I saw a huge big scale plastic kit of the 2nd World War Japanese battleship YAMATO but what really caught my eye was the suspisiuosly familure red triangular logo in the corner of the box top that said NICHIMACO? this logo is virtually identicle to the old Nichimo logo? I spoke to the guy behind the stall and he said that it was the smae firm as Nichimo and that they changed their company name some time ago and now they make high quality plastic kits [:D]

so Nichimo ARE still around it's just you couldn't find anything on them cos they have changed their name to Nichimaco [;)]

The Dandy Dash is indeed a NIKKO product, quite why it was bought up in this NICHIMO discussion thread I do not know [8)]

Well it finally arrived.....

After buying a Luminous on ebay and waiting since the 16th of March, it finally turned up today [:D] after about 45 days!

That will teach me for buying something in Japan and getting it shipped to Australia via surface! (Bender gives himself uppercut [B)])

The bearing sizes are a bit odd - it comes with 4 x 8 and 5 x10 bushings but they are all flanged - it looks like non-flanged bearings would work but I'm not sure.

Anyone got a ballraced Nichimo out there who knows what bearings fit?

I've discovered something else about this car, the shocks are just plain rubbish [V]

What the secret to get them smooth?

I've built shocks from just about every car maker you could think of over the last 19 years but I can't get these right!
