Never thought Id say this but Im seriously considering purchasing a 1/8 nitro buggy.

As you may well now form my constant rants in these forums, there arent many manufacturer options here in Mexico variety wise.

Im basically stuck with Duratrax and Kyosho.

So, is that "Axis" vehicle from the first any good? Or should I keep it safe and go for a Kyosho?

Thanks for your comments!

i think its a safe bet you would be far happier with the kyosho over the duratrax axis (aka flying point zircon)...well worth the extra cash

i would recommend the standard 7.5 kit at a minimum if you are buying new (avoid the sports/rtr)

I also have to admit that i have my eyes on a 1:8 nitro buggy. I'm leaning towards a 7.5 [:)]

Oh, and what is the difference between the Sports and the regular kit?

quick comparison of sports/rtr and regular:

2.5mm chassis vs. 3mm chassis

plastic spur gear vs. steel spur gear

aluminum drive gears vs. steel drive gears

2 small gears in the diffs vs. 4 small gears in the diffs

the older blue shocks vs. the newer silver shocks

all dogbones vs. front universals

motor mounts integrated in the engine vs. separate universal engine mounts

there are a few other differences, but those are the most important ones (and the most expensive to upgrade)...you will need to get the engine, pipe and manifold separately (and other misc. stuff like shock & diff oils etc) but that is better in the long run since you aren't forced to buy stuff you don't really want (like the ho-hum engine included with the sports/rtr)

Kyosho and Tamiya are Ford /GM or Coke / Pepsi... take your pick.

Most of my kyoshos are Nitro version but only I have ran the World Cup which is pretty reliable. Can't comment about Duratrax as I never own or run one before.

I think nitro is more fun to run with longer run time and add sound and the smell of the fuel could make you go nitro. But on the down side is more dirty with the oil / grease from the nitro and make sure your glow plug and battery packs are properly charge else can't start the car or you have a run away. Can't run you nitro in the middle of the night without having your neighor calling the cops, unless you live on a farm, a big farm like Ben Cartright of Bonaza or Ponderosa. Right little Joe...Hopsing???

If you want a pullstart 21, that hohum engine is ok.

Once upon a time, that was the only 21 pullstart available! [:)]

Plastic spur will work, but sand & grit will wear it down.

Metal spurs are better... but then you strip your clutchbell instead.

Best is to get 2 metal spurs and install them sandwiched together.

It all depends on what you want to do with it.

If its just bashing the Sport RTR is great - I'd love it.

If you're racing then you really want the Kanai edition, don't you? [8D]

Unless you get tempted at Maxx trucks? Tamiya TNX or HPI Savage? [:P]

the 7.5 RTR does actually include an all new engine (the GX-21) which replaces the old GS-21...its said to be fairly punchy, probably about on par with the average ~2hp sport engine...dunno if it is ABC or ABN but i suspect the latter

i would still recommend the standard kit, i am anti-RTR for a variety of reasons...hehe

uninteresting side note: i actually have an example of each of the 3 incarnations of the GS-21...the original blocky head, the blue head version, and the newest version (black, orange or gold head)
