yep, joustra is a rc brand, also makes a porsche (911?) , a bmw 635csi and if not mistaking, a mercedes 500sl.

Never seen the fjord "thing" before, the 635's fatch quite good money for some 6 serie drivers / lovers.

Do mind, the joustra cars are more ment for display then actually use them, be prepared to get it smashed B)

A Joustra Fjord, I never thought I'd see one of those again! When I was about 12, the local newsagent had one on the shelf and I was fascinated by it as it was huge and had tracks. After much pleading with my parents, I ended up getting it as a combined birthday and christmas present (it was £50, which was a lot of money 20 years ago). I got it on my birthday, unpacked it and realised it needed a huge amounnt of batteries to make it go (6 or 8 'D' cells maybe?).

I played with it for a while, but due to it's size, weight and rubbish turning system (it's one of those "turn left in reverse" early RCs), it cost a fortune in batteries, so I never got to play with it that much and it got sold. I did try it in the water once, and it was even slower than it was on land (the track cleats are shaped like paddles to drive it). It wasn't all that waterproof either!

It was a nice design, but I'm not sure the mechanicals are up to being converted to real RC (for a start, I think it only had one motor and gearbox, and steered through a clutch on one track). It's nice to see one again though!

Joustra seemed to be around quite a bit when I was a kid. IIRC they were french, and made some nice 'remote control' cars (I had a Martini-Porsche 911 and an old McClaren F1 car), steered by piano wire in the power cable! I also had an absolutely brilliant remote-control tower crane that they did. The only problem is that they used pretty naff plastic, so you had to be careful with them.

It does take 6 D type batteries plus 1 9volt in the truck and 2 C batteries in the transmitter! Had it on the pond already, it does float but boy is it slow!

Will be adding it to my showroom soon ( when I start trying to convert it somehow.
