I looked into them a while back, but the general advice then was that although you get a big truck for you money, they we generally unreliable, poor quality materials and trying to get spares was a complete nightmare.

might be different a few months later on.

I'd personally go for something a bit smaller but better quality, especially if its your first journey into nitro monster trucks.

if you want big, fast, tough and cheap why not get an xtm mammoth. stock form they go 52mph! as for durability the only issue is bent shock towers, but you can easily bend them back. they cost from 200-300usd.

My brother used to have a CEN Nitro schlesser buggy (1:10)wich was pretty fast stock and had a good engine only the parts availability[:I] was very poor. It took 2-3 months before he had the parts again to drive after the car crashed into a wall[xx(]. And after that he put 3.5 cc [}:)] in it instaed of a 2,5 cc it was very fast only you could see the chassis bending.

I know a guy with the CEN genesis and he isnt all that impressed, seen it go and it isnt overly quick, it tends to break and parts availability is an issue. He is selling and going for a savage 25.

whatever you go for, don,t have anything nitro by tamiya e.g terra crusher....tnx thses trucks are awful

What??

The TNX is an awesome truck it's the fastest in it's class, is very tough and being Tamiya spares are fairly easy to get hold of!!

The Terra Crusher isn't too bad apart from the FRAT gearbox which can be a PITA if it doesn't run right!!

i would also not reccomend the tnx or terra crusher, the tnx's top speed is average, and the terra crusher is below average due to its weight. both of them arent very tough, the universals bind, and break alot. i would say the fastest with in its class is the xtm mammoth,52mph stock tested by rc car action magazine. and the mammoth is more durable because it has a monique chassis, tnx and tc are semi monique, which has a durability disadvatage. plus the mammoths has alum threaded shocks and alum shock towers. also its big, bigger than a savage, thats what west coast customiser lookin for.

best of all theres more parts avaliblity for xtm, the only tamiya products my hobby store has is spray paint.

tnx 40mph 200-250usd 23" L W 16"

tc 35ish 150-200usd

mammoth 52mph 200-250usd 23.4"L 17.2"W 3.44" ground clearance

price weight shocks engine speed

tnx 230avrg 9 plastic 1.4ish HP 40mph

tc 175avrg 13 plastic 1.2ish HP 35mph

mammoth 230avrg 11.75 alum thrd 2.6HP 52mph

im not biased towards xtm but i admire there customer servise the most, they have there own forum, which they talk you you and try to help you, or replace parts for you.

another good "big" monster truck selection would be:

hb dirt demon

kyosho mad force

monster gt

TT01owner I wouldn't say you are biased towards XTM but against any Tamiya product from many previous posts of you, maybe you are lost in the wrong forum? [;)]

Parts availibitly depends on location, my LHSes (Germany) carry close to nill XTM stuff, WCC is located in uK so TT01user you can't judge from living in Canada, west coast customizer needs to check on his own what his LHSes carry. Also what part availability concerns, Tamiya is the biggest RC company in the world and exists more then 50 years, XTM isn't even in the TOP10 and much much newer to have a similar service network. [;)]

TNX chassis is very tough, as its well engineered and TNX weighs 2 pounds less then the XTM (higher weight = higher impact forces) have never heared anyone breaking it, also no real universal problems like Savage.

Also it depends on personal priorities, I personally don't see much sense for a MT going more then 40mph which is already scary fast and can't or shouldn't be reached everywhere.

Cheers

ive seen the cen on "slapmafro.com" and its very slow and breaks to easy! in a review in rc car action it said that stopping was a big issue even though its got 3 disks,i prefer a savage as they take a right beating the only thing i know thats bad about them is that all the screws fall out and the access to the radio tub is awful,i have a revo and thats had mixed reports, mine takes mild abuse and ive skied the thing 15ft+ in the air with no major damage.

if you are curious about any nitro realated things www.nitroreview.com is a great site, lots of consumer reports on nitro rc's, nitro engines, pipes, and radio systems.

i like it alot it helped me make the right decision for buying my nitros.
