I definetly remember the Shinsei Honda ATC. My brother bought one and I played with it for hours on end. Luckily my parents got one for me for Christmas.

Here is my collection of them.

Since this entry I have been able to score another 4-trax that is almost new.

I have to tell you those sears and roebuck catalogs were great. Sears offered about every good toy out there and there were pages upon pages of full color pictures of them.

ShoDog, great pics. I had the Trike too. There was actually a few companies who put their name on it around that time. The best one was a company called SPICA who changed the motor and a few smaller parts to chrome plated to make it slightly more realistic. I would love to get one from either companies NIB. Interested in selling your NIB one?[?] I would give you $250 for it right now if interested.[:D]

That's a tempting price but really I want to hang on to it.

Hey Scorcher Champ, what else do you know about the company SPICA?

I have a Spica Road Runner buggy from 1987. It's 2WD and a bit like a Hornet, with a 540 motor and polycarbonate body. It's complete and the only thing I'm missing is the Spica radio transmitter itself (all the on board radio gear is branded as Spica).

Any more info about Spica would be appreciated.

As for the Honda ATC, I remember a friend of mine had one of those in 1985. I used to race him (and beat him) with my humble Radio Shack Jeep Renegade. Lovely collection you have there shodog.

And incidentally the Ranger 4WD truck pictured at the top in the Sears catalogue alongside the Honda ATC, is the same car (underneath) as the '4x4 Off Roader' sold for many years by Radio Shack/Tandy. The 4x4 Off Roader was itself actually manufactured by Taiyo. Taiyo cars were later sold as Tyco in the uSA. Hence - the remote belonging to the Ranger 4WD is the same unit as supplied with the famous Tyco Turbo Hopper.

6 degrees of toy separation [:)].

cheers,

H.

Wasn't the MRP PRO-110 marketed through Sears? I seem to remember either someone telling me that or reading it somewhere.

I remember when I was a kid I could not wait for the Wish Books to come out. I used to use them as my "Dear Santa" lists. Great Memories There! Thanks for bring them back!

If i'm not mistaken SPICA was the brand stamped on the Toys R uS versions of the Dust Runner here in the u.S. I'm not sure if it was the same in the u.K.

I do remember the Road Runner and know it is a highly desirable kit these days, so you might want to do as ShoDog and hold on to yours too.

If you guys like these smaller company releases, then don't hesitate to get your hands on Radio Shack's Ricky Carmichael Dirt Bike and the YFZ450 ATV Quad. The Carmichael is already discontinued, but has become a huge success among R/C fans for it availability to use 1/10 scale hop-ups like faster motors, esc's and diff radio gear plus ball bearings. unfortunately Radio Shack has no idea how big they are becoming after being discontinued but if you can find them now they will be huge collectors items. The ATV Quad is their lates item and has the same available options and will also become a huge hit among fans and collectors guaranteed. There was a guy on Ebay stores selling the Carmichael's for only $90 each NIB. I think last i checked he had 2 left. The Quad is a new item and is only available through Radioshack.com or the retail stores for $129.99. I already have 2 NIB carmichaels to save and 2 to drive and bough 2 quads. One to save and one to drive. The realism of these kits are insane and they are around a huge 1/5 scale too.

To see the Carmichael bikes in action check out this link http://www.skiptonclub.net/ricky_carmichael.htm

Let me know what ya's think. You can email me direct @ Magicalwriter@aol.com

Sorry...

yes, the MRP Pro-110 and the MRP High Roller were both once available at Sears. I have all of the Wish Books from 1975-1989. I will try to post some more pics from them on this link within the next day or so.

Excellent, thanks for the info. I do intend to hold onto my Spica RoadRunner as I think it's a nice looking buggy. And also for sentimental reasons, as I remember wanting one when I saw it in a catalogue back in the day.

Just wondering - how do you know it's desirable? I've searched Google and can't seem to find any information about it anywhere, let alone Spica the brand itself. It seems to be one of the rarest brands of them all.

cheers,

H.
