I'm in the US, we don't get many old minis here, although I really like them. I've seen a few of the new mini's here in the past few weeks.

People drive really big cars/trucks here in the US. I started getting a bit uncomfortable & paranoid in my small car. That, and the fact that there are alot of deer in my area who don't understand the fundamentals of crossing the street, caused me to trade in my small Dodge Neon and get my wife a Chrysler minivan. I took over her Jeep Cherokee.

My car is a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro, 327ci engine and a Powerglide transmission. It's the best car I have ever had, with only 75k original miles and everything original. Nothing like a V8 and dual exhaust to get you going in the morning.

minis......

I just had to sell my car for the move to Canada, looking forward to driving something a bit bigger!

My car was 1977 Mark 2 Escort. 2 Litre Injection, with loads of mods, including Capri 2.8i front struts and brakes, pretty well full RS spec buth with flat front, Olympic Blue in colour. I miss it. A pleasure to drive. Rear wheel drive is the only way to travel at speed !!!

What is it about Minis? I've not got one anymore but i've had loads of them, 850's, 1000's, 1275's i've also had 2 pickups which were really sweet and a GTM coupe which was great. Crashed my last mini (full union jack paint job) on a track day at Cadwell Park, there was a photo of it in Miniwold magazine. icon_smile.gif Since then i've had a Nissan Sunny GTI-R which was balistic but had to go as i've just bought a house and the insurance was a bit pricey (group 19). My car now? Gone old skool again. Got a 1977 Triumph Dolomite, oh, and a Ducati 900 Monster. icon_smile.gif

It'd be quicker to take a count of who never owned a mini min.JPG

I got a Mondeo now, god it's boring - but it does Oxford to Cornwall in less than 3 hours, so it's got its plus points (and a **** fine stereo - banging down the M5 to loud AC/DC can't be beat!)

Well, I don't have a real car myself (It's illegal when 16 years old... icon_smile_wink.gif ) But My dad has a lot of them: an Austin Healy Sprite Mk.1 (Frogeye), a Saab 95 (not the 9-5), a Renault 4 (almost NIB or something.... icon_smile.gif), an other Reanult, from 1922, a 201 i believe, an old Röhr or something, from 1937 I think (Röhr was some kind of the old name for DKW and Audi, but I'm not really sure), an old Peugeot (I donnu what it is, I'm getting really confused trying to remember it icon_smile_wink.gif ) Maybe some more, but I'm not sure. (****, you must be rich if can't even count your cars! LOL icon_smile.gif) My mum has a brand new Land Rover Defender 90, yes, my mum drives this kind of cars. icon_smile_shock.gif (though my dad drives it more, the sneaky devil... icon_smile_evil.gif )

Knowing my dad's interrest in big old cars, I isn't that surprising his son is in tiny old cars. Like father, like son or something like that.id=size1> icon_smile.gif Now my dad feels a bit sad since I've got more cars then he does... icon_smile_evil.gif LOL

I love Sand Scorchers, but I don't have one... Please help this poor collector...icon_smile.gifid=size1>

Hello All!

Stu, when will this move take place? and if it has already let me welcome you to Canada. I live in Ontario and I drive a Focus. No mods yet, but I'm slowly getting there. Unfortunately (old)Rovers and mini's are rare here otherwise the rover would have been the first choice. I settled on the focus, (go figure, I work for Ford) anyway thats my 2cents.

Hey Shane,

I head to Calgary just as soon as my house sells, yes I know right in time for their nice mild Winter!!!!

Ain't nothing wrong with driving a Ford, just so long as it's not a KA.. I would suspect they don't even bother to produce those stupid looking little things in North America anyway.

I guess I will just have to look out for a nice 65 or 66 Mustang for my fun car when I get set up!!!

cheers

I'm a newbie to your club, but I enjoyed reading all the posts about what you all drive in full-size cars. I just wanted to say that you gentleman (and ladies) may not realize how lucky you are to drive neat little cars like Minis and other Europe-only vehicles. Here in the U.S., I've had numerous Civics, a '77 MBG, an '81 Fiat X1/9, and most recently, a '95 Miata. I felt like I should just paint a target on the back of each of them to make it easier for all the lemmings buying SUVs to use me as a wheel chock. I recently bought a 2002 VW GTI (1.8L, 180-HP turbo) to get a bit more crash protection and still enjoy a small car and reasonably good fuel mileage. I love my country, but I'm embarrassed at our wastefulness in what we drive. Maybe if we end up paying what you do for gas we'll get our priorities in order.

DJ Theo, good point - size is relative. For the U.S., the Golf is considered very small. All my office mates looked out the window when I got it and said "what a cute little car!" (Not the reaction I was looking for, by the way.icon_smile_blush.gif) If it weren't for practical considerations with storage and threatening traffic, I'd be happy in my old Fiat. I looked at a new (BMW-produced) Mini, but decided the performance, equipment, versatility, and interior quality wasn't there to justify the dealer greed charge that's tacked on here. Also, I'm 6'1", so I can't comfortably go much smaller than the GTI. Just picked up it's mini-me on ebay, the Tamiya Golf V5 (kit 58206), which I will begin building just as soon as the ball bearing kit I ordered arrives.
