With all the nice photos in the showrooms, I am curios to know what cameras people are using.

The camera I use is a Sony Cyber-shot 3.3 Mega Pixels

I was in same position as you until recently had a digi camera but leant it to my mates son to take photo of his bike, apparantly, it stopped working after a few shots. He swore he didnt break it... when asked how he transported it, he said in the panier under his scooter seat[:(][:(], obviously rattled about in there. He still swears it wasnt his fault, so luckily Captain Calamity has been good enough to take any photos I need.

Though have just bought my self (from ebay) a mustek DV, 2.1 megapixel camera but also does 11minutes of video footage, so have started figuring out which cars to attach it to[:D]

I've been enjoying my RC photoshoots with a 2megapixel Canon Powershot A40...

Among the consumer-level digital cameras, it probably has one of the largest variety of accessories.

Specifically useful for my RC sessions is the acce_img4.jpg 250D Macro lens that lets the camera take extreme closeups inches away so that my subject can fill the frame from edge-to-edge. The camera has a mounting ring designed into the body that lets it accept a variety of 52mm lenses & filters.

The other feature that helps my shots is the excellent manual exposure control most other cameras can't match. I often opt for manual exposure rather than washing out a scene with the flash.

The A70 has now been released with a 3.2megapixel CCD, but I don't find myself getting too anxious to upgrade to it. 99% of the 2megapixel shots I snap for posting online has to be resized smaller. In my case more megapixels is the last thing I need for my shooting habits. For a new shopper though, the A70 and it's accessories should be worth serious consideration.

I use the Fujifilm Finepix 50i 4.3 Mega Pixels - same camera for WillyCam movies.

Analog : Canon EOS 1 and EOS 50 - Lomo for artsy stuff...

Anyone know if they sell a digital camera with manual exposure in excess of 10min? Not sure if this is viable or at all possible with digital camera technology, but I need long exposure for my other passion which is Astro photography.

Cheers

10 MINUTES?? I have zero experience with astro photography, but wouldn't celestial bodies move a significant distance across the sky in that duration?

There's nothing in the low-to-mid consumer-level cam that would do a 10 minute shutter as far as I know. My Canon A40 in manual mode will keep its shutter open for 15 seconds.

I would figure that full-out-Nth-degree manual would warrant the $2000-$6000 digital SLRs from Nikon and Canon. The respective companies' websites should have PDF spec sheets that'll answer that.

I should also add that based on what I know about the CCD chip used in both digital still cameras and video camcorders, they aren't as tolerant of long exposure times like traditional celluloid film. It's likely that even with the pricey digital SLRs, an exposure of that duration would result in a tremendous amount of video noise (aka grainy artifacts)

Yes, I guess you can't manual hold an exposure for 10min without moving that's why we hook the camera onto the telescope tube and we use GPS and Astro tracking software to track the object, some interesting note, some exposure time needed for deep celestial object can be several hours to bring out the full light and colors.s

I could buy a CCD imaging device specifically for that sort of thing but a good one costs around USD9,000 with liquid cooling.

Anyway, looks like I've gone off track, we should be posting Tamiya related stuff [B)]

In the recent past (some weeks) I use my new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ1, I am still learning with it. Sometimes you get frustrated with the results. Before that I used a Canon EOS 650 from 1987 (will be sold now), or a Sony Mavica FD91 from my department.

The most important thing in photography, either analog or digital, is light, you always need lots of light for best results!

if you have all this stuff, surely you know more than us about the matter! [;)]

I guess the most importaint thing about photography is not to have lots of light, but to know how to manipulate, and get the most out of the light avaiable in any given condition.

Yep, but when you can't get out the best of it, due to the restricted features, then you need light. I find it so hard to gain knowledge about photography, especially with digicams, it is not so easy as I thought first.
